• Cal Fire Requests $234M More In Funding After Burning Through Budget

    REDDING (AP) – The California agency that fights wildfires says it’s about to exceed its budget and needs $234 million more.
    Cal Fire director Ken Pimlott says in a letter to lawmakers Thursday that the agency spent $432 million through the end of August and had only about $11 million left.
    Fire season generally picks up in fall, when winds and high temperatures can combine with dried-our forest and grasslands to create dangerous conditions.

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A man has died after reportedly being in distress in the Sacramento River late Thursday morning.
    The incident happened at Miller Park.

  • Israeli Teen Falls To His Death After Reportedly Trying To Take Selfie At Yosemite

    YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK (CBS13) – A teenager visiting Yosemite from Israel died after reportedly trying to take a selfie.
    The Times of Israel reports say 18-year-old Tomer Frankfurter of Jerusalem was trying to take a photo at the edge of Nevada Falls before falling more than 800 feet to his death.
    The teen’s mother told Israeli media he was on a two-month trip to the US prior to joining Israel’s army.
    Frankfurther’s body will be brought back to Israel to be buried.

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Police say a suspect is dead after a SWAT situation in Sacramento early Thursday morning.
    The scene is on Larkin Way and 21st Street. Sacramento police say they got a call about a man with a mask in the area.
    Officers located him but he ran. The suspect then ran into a backyard and a perimeter was set up in the area.

    REDDING (AP/CBS13) — A fast-growing wildfire in Northern California prompted officials Wednesday to close both directions of Interstate 5 connecting California and Oregon and issue evacuations.

  • Stockton Man Found Sleeping At Illegal Pot Grow In Butte County

    BUTTE COUNTY (CBS13) — A Stockton man was found sleeping next to an assault rifle in a makeshift cabin during a raid at an illegal pot grow, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office said on Wednesday.
    Deputies served a search warrant on Long Point Road and say they found Tony Moua, 33 of Stockton, asleep with a handgun and an assault weapon next to him. He was arrested without incident.

    SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY (CBS13) — The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s office is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect they believe exposed himself to a woman last week.
    According to a Facebook post from the agency, the man, who was caught on security footage, went to the San Joaquin County Administration building where he allegedly exposed himself to a woman on the sixth floor, just after 9 a.m.
