    SHASTA-TRINITY NATIONAL FOREST, Calif. (AP/CBS13) — A roaring wildfire that shut down a stretch of a major interstate near the California-Oregon border exploded in size as crews on Saturday scrambled to prevent flames from reaching rural communities.
    The blaze in California’s Shasta-Trinity National Forest was burning out of control after chewing through 36,970 acres of timber and brush since Wednesday.

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The Delta Fire continues to impacting traffic in Shasta County today. But truck drivers headed through Sacramento felt the long delays as Interstate 5 remains closed.

    STOCKTON (CBS13) — A shooting in Stockton left one person dead on Friday.
    The shooting happened at around 5:10 p.m. on Friday in the 1500 block of Ishi Goto Street.
    A 22-year-old man was transported to the hospital by a private vehicle and died at the hospital.

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A ruling by the California Supreme Court changed the way independent contractors are classified in California, making it much more difficult for employers to put employees under that label.
    Dynamex Operations West v Superior Court of Los Angeles dates back to 2004 when Dynamex changed the status of its delivery drivers from employees to independent contractors. The employees filed suit when they say their work didn’t really change or justify the reclassification.

    LOS ANGELES (AP) – A pipeline company was convicted of nine criminal charges Friday for causing the worst California coastal spill in 25 years, a disaster that blackened popular beaches for miles, killed wildlife and hurt tourism and fishing.
    A Santa Barbara County jury found Houston-based Plains All American Pipeline guilty of a felony count of failing to properly maintain its pipeline and eight misdemeanor charges, including killing marine mammals and protected sea birds.

    WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Police from several departments are actively tracking down a crew of suspects that allegedly have robbed multiple area cell phone stores.

  • Man On Bike Robbed After Car Hits Him In Stockton

    STOCKTON (CBS13) — A man was robbed in Stockton after he cashed a check Friday.
    Stockton Police say the man was riding his bike in the area of Church and Hunter streets at around 9:30 a.m. on Friday when a vehicle came up and knocked him to the ground.
    After he was hit, police say a suspect got out of the passenger side of the vehicle and pointed a gun at him, demanding his money. The suspects were able to flee with the victim’s cash.

    STOCKTON (CBS13) — The Stockton Record announced it’s the latest victim of a tariff fight over the cost of newsprint and will close its operations facility, ending local printing of the newspaper.
    The closure will happen in October. The daily newspaper will continue to be printed, though where has not been specified as that deal has not been finalized, the Record said on Friday.
    About 40 jobs will be lost in Stockton as a result of the move.
