    MODESTO (CBS13) — Friends, family, and firefighters will gather Monday to celebrate the life of Braden Varney, who died fighting the Ferguson Fire July 14.

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — It sounded like a pyrotechnics show but the chaotic scene of sparks and pops Saturday at the State Fair was coming from below the Monorail train.
    Not only did sparks fly below the train, but they also started to fall on a straw smoothie stand.

  • Police: Fatal Party Shooting Leaves One Dead, One Injured In Dixon

    DIXON (CBS13) — Dixon Police said they found two men shot, one fatally, around midnight Friday, surrounded by a large crowd.
    Police responded to the 1000 block of Bello Drive after a report of a shooting and said they discovered the two victims lying in the street with the large crowd on and around the street.
    One victim died on the scene, according to officials, and the other was transported to an area hospital while officers secured the scene and attempted to locate witnesses.

    MODESTO (CBS13) — Fire crews and police extracted two people trapped in a car in Modesto Saturday.

    According to the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District, the car was involved in a traffic collision at Terminal Road and Claus Road between Riverbank and Modesto.

    ELK GROVE (CBS13) — A month before her 16th birthday, a car crash victim died from injuries sustained in a suspected DUI crash Sunday.
    According to the Sacramento County Coroner’s website, 15-year-old Breante Whitaker died Monday as a result of the accident.
    Whitaker was riding in a car with three other people down Elk Grove Boulevard near Adams Street when they were hit by 27-year-old Austin Crownover.

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — State Fair Officials confirmed the California State Fair Monorail will be closed for the remainder of Saturday after a small fire broke out under the train.

    6:40 p.m. UPDATE: CAL FIRE reported that the forward progress of the Carder Fire has stopped. Officials said the fire remains 60 acres and is now 20 percent contained.

    LAKE COUNTY (CBS13) — A 60-acre fire broke out in Kelseyville Saturday just before 3 p.m, according to CAL FIRE.
