    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Stockton and Modesto landed on WalletHub’s list of least educated cities in the United States.
    WalletHub looked at the 150 largest cities nationwide and ranked them using 11 categories, including the number of adults (25 and older) with a bachelor’s degree, the racial education gap, and the quality of the public school system.
    Overall, Stockton/Lodi came in at #143 and Modesto ranked #146.
    Vallejo/Fairfield fared a bit better at #115.

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The California State Auditor released its yearly Whistleblower Act report Tuesday and it found a number of disturbing violations and misuse of taxpayer dollars. The report includes investigations into one DMV employee who slept at her desk for extended periods of time during work hours, a prison worker who regularly left early from work for more than two years, and two groundskeepers who routinely left work for hours at a time.

  • Yosemite Valley To Close For Several Days As Crews Battle Ferguson Fire

    AWAHNEE (CBS13/AP) – California authorities will shut down Yosemite Valley for several days as crews try to stop a stubborn and growing wildfire from spreading into Yosemite National Park.
    The Fresno Bee reports park Superintendent Michael Reynolds told a community meeting that a 20-mile (32-kilometer) stretch of State Route 41 will close beginning Wednesday at noon. The closure is expected to last through Sunday.

  • 2 Killed In Yuba County Head-On Crash, Woman Suspected Of DUI

    LINDA (CBS13) – A woman is facing DUI and manslaughter charges after a head-on crash in Yuba County early Tuesday morning.
    The scene was on N. Beale Road, west of College View Drive in the Linda area.
    California Highway Patrol’s Yuba-Sutter division says, around 5:30 a.m., 32-year-old Marysville resident Rachel Hawkins was driving west on N. Beale Road when her car crashed head-on into another vehicle going the other way.

  • Vector Control: 2nd Night Of Aerial Spraying Set For Tuesday Evening

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Tonight will be the second night of aerial spraying in an effort to target and kill mosquito populations.
    Crews started spraying in parts of Sacramento County Monday night to reduce the threat of West Nile Virus. So far this year, 156 mosquito samples and 79 dead birds have tested positive for West Nile – prompting vector control officials to start aerial spraying.

    CARMICHAEL (CBS13) – Homeowners in Carmichael have spotted unexpected visitors in their homes. They say more and more cockroaches are creeping around their properties.

  • Man Accused Of Setting Fire To Store’s American Flag Because It Wasn’t Displayed Properly

    TRUCKEE (CBS13) – Fired up over the American flag, a Truckee man is under arrest for how he allegedly reacted to finding old glory being displayed.
    The flag was on display overnight outside of the Glenshire General Store. Police say one man took exception to that and responded in an extreme way.

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Thomas the puppy is finally up for adoption at the Bradshaw Animal Shelter in Sacramento.
    He’s described as loving people and “in his gangly teenage years.”A woman brought the pit bull mix into the shelter in March with a severe skull fracture, brain trauma, and a blind eye.
