    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The Sacramento Kings will open the preseason schedule with three games on the road against Pacific Division opponents.
    The NBA announced the preseason schedule for all teams today.
    The Kings will play two of their six games at home, including an October 8 game against the Israeli team Maccabi Haifa. It’s the third time in four seasons the two squads have played each other.

    SACRAMENTO (AP) – The University of California is lowering tuition by $60 for the upcoming academic year.
    The UC Board of Regents approved the decrease Thursday.
    It’s the university system’s first tuition decrease in nearly two decades.
    California residents will pay $12,570 in tuition and fees next year. Students from outside the state will pay more than triple that amount.

  • Premium Tortilla Maker To Build Factory In Elk Grove, Refitting Old Bimbo Bakeries Facility

    ELK GROVE (CBS13) – The old Bimbo Bakeries facility in Elk Grove is going to be turning into a tortilla factory.
    Mi Rancho – a premium and organic tortilla maker – bought the old 10115 Iron Rock Way facility for $8.1 million, according to the City of Elk Grove. The company says it plans to invest $25 million to retrofit the old facility.

  • 3 Men Arrested After BASE Jumping Off Foresthill Bridge

    AUBURN (CBS13) – Deputies says three men were arrested after BASE jumping off the Foresthill Bridge over the weekend.
    The Placer County Sheriff’s Office says, back on Sunday, deputies responded to the bridge a little after 9 p.m. to investigate a report of a suicidal woman on the railing.
    Deputies didn’t see a woman, but while checking the bridge’s catwalk area they spotted a group of people jumping down with parachutes.

    MODESTO (CBS13) – A search is on for two suspects after officers in Modesto were shot at during a chase late Thursday night.
    The incident started a little before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. Modesto police say officers with the department’s automotive theft task force started chasing a vehicle.

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A popular Sacramento restaurant caught fire early Thursday morning.
    Firefighters responded to Shoki Ramen House on 21st Street near Broadway just after midnight.
    The fire appears to have been sparked from somewhere inside the building. Crews were at the scene for about three hours.

  • California Makes Postage Free On Mail-In Election Ballots Starting In 2019

    SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – California is requiring counties to provide free postage for vote-by-mail ballots statewide.
    Gov. Jerry Brown announced Wednesday that he signed the bill requiring that return ballot envelopes have prepaid postage.
    Currently, 10 of the state’s 58 counties plan to provide postage ballots for the November election. Counties would bear the cost but they may be able to claim reimbursement from the state.
    It would have cost $5.5 million had the law been in place
