• I-80 Shutdown At Magra Road Due To Semi-Truck Fire

    3:40 p.m. UPDATE: CAL FIRE Nevada-Yuba-Placer confirmed that the semi truck was hauling baking soda.
    Firefighters said they are committed for another two hours at the scene.
    The vegetation fire was contained to a half acre.

    PLACER COUNTY (CBS13) — A fully involved semi-truck fire on Interstate 80 and Dutch Flat closed down the road in both directions, CAL FIRE said. The forward progress of the fire has stopped and CAL FIRE said they are gaining ground on the vegetation fire.

    2 p.m. UPDATE: The final acreage was 12 acres, according to Metro Fire.

    RIO LINDA (CBS13) — A vegetation fire has broken out in Rio Linda, according to Sacramento Metro Fire.
    The fire was dispatched by Sacramento Metro Fire at 12:44 p.m. Saturday at Elkhorn Blvd. and Elkhorn Manor Drive.
    Multiple engines are on scene as well as a helicopter.
    Firefighters said the fire is burning five acres at this time and no structures are threatened. However, there are homeless camps in the area

  • Firefighter Who Died In Highway 65 Motorcycle Crash Identified

    LINCOLN (CBS13) — South Placer firefighters are mourning the loss of one of their own.
    David Volk, 31, died sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
    The California Highway Patrol says Volk, a five-year veteran with the department, was traveling northbound on his 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle on Highway 65 near the Lincoln Boulevard exit when he most likely hit a guardrail and was thrown off the bike.
