    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A new group is now leading the project to develop a long-neglected part of Downtown Sacramento, officials announced on Thursday.
    Mayor Darrell Steinberg said developer Sotiris Kolokotronis is now leading the group to turn the corner of 10th and J streets into a mixed-use project.

    LODI (CBS13) – Sprouts Farmers Market is holding a job fair in Lodi next week to hire 150 new employees.
    Those hired will work at the grocery store chain’s new 30,000 square-foot location, which is scheduled to open on East Harney Lane at the end of August.

  • Caught On Camera: Tip Jar Stolen From Local Ice Cream Store

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A man was caught on camera stealing a tip jar from a local ice cream shop.
    The Parlor Ice Cream Puffs on Fair Oaks in Sacramento posted a video clip on its Instagram and Facebook showing a man wearing shorts walk into the store and nonchalantly take the tip jar from the counter. A little girl turns and watches as the man with a bun walks out. The reported theft happened Wednesday evening.

  • Deer With Mouth Stuck In Jar Tranquilized And Freed

    PLACER COUNTY (CBS13) – A young mother deer that had its mouth stuck inside a jar has been freed.
    Residents announced Thursday morning that the deer was tranquilized by a Fish and Wildlife officer. The jar, which was jammed into the lower jaw of the deer, was then removed.
    “We can see her beautiful face again!” wrote neighbor Sandra Purcell in a Facebook post announcing the deer had been rescued. “Thanks to Dr. Brandon Munk and Canh Nguyen for onsite aid.”

  • West Sacramento Church Damaged In Fire

    WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A West Sacramento church was damaged in a fire Thursday morning.
    The scene is at the Russian Orthodox Church near Hobson Avenue and Water Street.Firefighters responded around 8 a.m. and quickly went to work. Crews searched the inside of the building and didn’t find anyone inside.

    SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) – Authorities have taken into custody a suspect who deputies say intentionally crashed into a patrol car.
    The incident started around 4 a.m. in the Alta Arden area.

  • Anger Management Group Leads Rescue Of Baby Ducklings From Storm Drain

    WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A mother duck’s panic over her trapped ducklings was calmed by a group from a nearby anger management program.
    Five ducklings fell down the West Sacramento storm drain, leaving their mother frantically looking for a solution. The ducklings were out of her reach.
    A small army would quickly show up, with law enforcement, animal control and a group holding a meeting at The Center for Spiritual Awareness.

  • New Life-Saving Test Diagnoses Heart Attacks Faster At UC Davis

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A new life-saving test to catch heart attacks is now being used by UC Davis emergency room doctors.
    The test was rolled out about a month ago and has already reduced the number of patients in the ER.
    “I didn’t know where I was, what I was doing, I was in incredible pain,” said Lindsay Dyer, a heart attack survivor.

    SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – California Assemblyman Devon Mathis was reprimanded last month for making sexual comments, including about fellow lawmakers, according to a letter released Wednesday.
    The letter from the Assembly Rules Committee to Mathis says his comments violated the chamber’s sexual harassment policy.
