• Clarence teen pleads guilty to attempted murder

    CLARENCE, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Clarence teen pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted murder Friday in Erie County Court.
    Zachery Aroix faces a maximum of 25 years in prison when he’s sentenced March 16.
    According to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, in March 2017, Aroix and two other defendants lured a victim to a construction site off of Gentwood Drive to attempt to rob him at gunpoint.

    CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Williamsville man who admitted to leaving the scene of a fatal accident was sentenced to five years’ probation.
    He will also lose his driver’s license for one year.
    On June 7, Lawrence Penna, 68, was driving to the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport to pick up a family member. While driving, his vehicle collided with a truck carrying four Minnesota women.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers at the Peace Bridge seized more than 3.5 kilograms of a hallucinogenic drug smuggled in shampoo bottles at the Peace Bridge.

    NEW YORK (AP) — The government’s star witness in the bribery trial of a former top aide to Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has been arrested.
    The arrest of Todd Howe came after he admitted Thursday during testimony that he violated the terms of his plea deal in the case against former Cuomo aide Joseph Percoco and others.

    BATAVIA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A legend of Batavia radio has passed away.
    Wayne Fuller joined WBTA in Batavia in 1967, working for the station on and off since then.
    In his most recent position with WBTA, Fuller was an afternoon announcer. Along with that, he was also known in the local sports world as a longtime announcer for both the Batavia Muckdogs baseball team and the Rochester Lancers soccer team.
    Fuller passed away on Friday morning following a battle with health issues. He was 70.

  • Youth hockey coach charged after incident in Niagara Falls

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A youth hockey coach, who was accused of grabbing a parent by the throat, has been charged.
    Authorities charged Michael Wulkan with harassment and criminal obstruction of breathing.
    Police say this happened in a locker room at a youth hockey tournament at the Hyde Park ice rink in Niagara Falls last month.

  • Buffalo police disbanding Strike Force

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Buffalo Police Department has decided to disband its specialized Strike Force.
    Mayor Byron Brown established it several years ago to fight gangs, drugs and guns in high crime areas.
    The unit has faced criticism recently from some citizen groups who say the road blocks and other tactics the Strike Force used unfairly targeted minority neighborhoods.

    PERINTON, N.Y. (WROC) — An alert has been issued for a couple in Perinton that have gone missing.
    The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says 73-year-old Robert Ross and 72-year-old Mary Ross were last heard from in late January.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A California man who had a role in an illegal immigration scheme has pleaded guilty.
    Marguin Sanchez, 23, had been charged with conspiracy to employ unlawful aliens. The maximum penalty for his crime is five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
    Prosecutors say Sanchez, along with Jose Sanchez-Ocampo, helped Sergio Ramses Mucino hire illegal immigrants to work at four Mexican restaurants in western New York.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Buffalo firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire at the VA Hospital on Bailey Avenue.
    The fire broke out just before 8 p.m. Thursday.
    Crews say it started on the 11th floor of the building.
    They were able to put it out quickly.

    The letter is purportedly issued by NatWest Bank in the UK and promises an inheritance opportunity.
