• Buffalo man pleads guilty to vehicular assault in serious injury crash

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Buffalo man has pleaded guilty to vehicular assault in a May crash at Bailey/East Delavan that seriously injured two people in another car.
    Marshawn Levy, 33, of Buffalo, pleaded guilty to first degree vehicular assault in Erie County Court.
    On May 13, Levy was driving north on Bailey Avenue at a high rate of speed when he crashed head-on into a car that was stopped in the southbound lane to make a turn onto East Delavan Avenue.

  • Buffalo man sentenced to 5 years in prison for attempting to run over police officers

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Kenneth Pringle, 24, of Buffalo was sentenced to 5 years in prison and 5 years of post release supervision for an incident that happened back in December of 2016.

    OLEAN, N.Y. (AP) — Police in Olean say they’d like to talk to the writer of a letter that arrived 34 years to the day after the disappearance of a young mother.
    The letter, with no return address or name, arrived in the mail at the Olean police station Feb. 7. The Olean Times Herald reports it contained information about the unsolved 1984 disappearance of 26-year-old Josephine Cottone Despard.

  • Man who attempted to run police over sentenced to prison

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 23-year-old Buffalo man was sentenced to five years in prison on Wednesday morning.
    Kenneth Pringle led police officers on a car chase and attempted to run them over in December of 2016.
    He pleaded guilty to attempted assault, and is also facing time in prison for an additional charge.

    LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) — Two people were arrested after two others were stabbed and cut in Lockport Tuesday night.
    Lockport police went to Pine St. around 11:40 p.m. and learned that two people had been hurt.
    The victims were both taken to Eastern Niagara Hospital for treatment before being released. They were only identified as males.

  • Suspect held, SUV stopped after shooting at NSA gate

    FORT MEADE, Maryland (AP) — Police say authorities are responding to a shooting outside the National Security Agency campus at Fort Meade, where police have surrounded a handcuffed man after a black SUV ran into a barrier.
    Fort Meade garrison spokeswoman Cheryl Phillips confirmed by phone that one person was injured in the shooting outside the base and was taken to hospital.

    TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) — City of Tonawanda police say a fugitive from California was caught in western New York.
    Police say Antonio Marquez, 21, of San Bernardino was arrested on Tuesday night after breaking items at a residence on Hackett Dr.
    While being arrested, police say Marquez told them “I don’t think I should be in New York.”

  • Lawmakers calling for long-term storage facility for rape kits

    ALBANY, N.Y. (WIVB) — State lawmakers want to do more to help victims of sexual assault get their cases solved.
    In Albany, members on both sides of the aisle are calling for a central storage facility to hold evidence and rape kits for 20 years.
    As it stands now, rape kits from incidents not reported to police are only kept for 30 days in a hospital before being destroyed.
    One victim said she was never told her evidence was being destroyed. She says coming forward was hard enough.

    The SUNY Institute announced Tuesday that it had denied a request for renewal of Oracle’s charter.
    Last month, the Institute found Oracle failed to meet certain criteria when it came to academics and the overall mission of the school.
