    LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) – In Niagara County, lawmakers are taking an important step in their lawsuit against pharmaceutical companies that make opioids.
    According to Legislator Rebecca Wydysh, stats show Niagara County is fourth per capita statewide in opioid prescriptions. In 2017, 31 people died from an overdose, and more than 300 survived an overdose there.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A food delivery driver for ‘Skip The Dishes’ in Buffalo says he is happy to be alive, after he was robbed at gunpoint early Monday morning. Now, the man accused of robbing him is in jail.
    This was Paul Villamor ‘s first week on the job. He is a driver for the’Skip The Dishes’ service. You order food through an app on your phone, and a driver brings it to your home.
    But when Villamor made the delivery, he was greeted with a gun.

    LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) – Niagara County will offer Narcan training for three days from Feb. 27 to March 1.
    The training is being offered by  the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services and Niagara County’s Opioid Addiction/Overdose Strategy Implementation Standing Committee.

    The victim told police that while delivering food for “Skip the Dishes,” the suspect pointed a gun at him before forcibly taking cash and food.

    WESTERVILLE, Ohio (WIVB) — Several hundred people filled the gym at Westerville High School in Ohio.
    They were paying tribute to the two police officers killed in the line of duty on Saturday.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Buffalo school officials say a sixth-grade boy cut the hand of a sixth-grade girl while on a school bus Monday morning.
    The incident happened while the children were en route to Hillery Park Academy. Police were seen at Clinton St. and Fillmore Ave.
    Officials say the boy used a pocket knife. He is being questioned by police.
    The girl was taken to Oishei Children’s Hospital for medical attention.

  • Town of Yates leaders fighting to keep wind turbines out

    YATES, N.Y. (WIVB) — An Orleans County town is still fighting to keep wind turbines out of their community.
    Leaders in the Town of Yates have amended a law to more strongly oppose turbines.
    Lighthouse Wind wants to install as many as 71 industrial wind turbines along the Lake Ontario shoreline in Orleans and Niagara counties.
    The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says turbines shouldn’t go up within three miles of the shoreline because they could threaten the habitat of birds.

    LONG BEACH, Calif. (WIVB) — Judges had tough decisions to make in California over the weekend. They had to pick who was the most beautiful bulldog.
    Dozens of bulldogs showed up to compete in categories such as Most Handsome, Prettiest and Best Disabled Dog.
    The organizer claims this was the world’s largest gathering of bulldogs, which included both English and French breeds.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Buffalo firefighters battled two house fires overnight.
    The first one happened near Sisters of Charity Hospital late Sunday night. Firefighters arrived at the scene on Humboldt Parkway shortly after 11 p.m.
    At one point, firefighters had to back out of the house because they were worried it could collapse. No one was hurt.

  • Missing North Carolina family linked to NY located in Tennessee

    UTICA, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – A North Carolina family that had been reported missing after being seen in Utica has been found.
    Utica Police say the Reynolds family was located in Tennessee early Monday morning, and that they are in good health.
    Travis Reynolds, his wife Deanna, and their baby Cooper were last seen on February 6 in Utica before they were reported missing.
    The family lives in North Carolina and Travis is in the Army, authorities said.

    OSWEGO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The FLOP girls made history on Sunday night when they knocked off Salmon River from Section X 4-1 in the state title game.
    The win is the first ever for a girls hockey team from western New York.

  • Players hit the ice for annual Labatt Blue pond hockey tournament

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Hockey took center stage at Riverworks Sunday during the annual Labatt Blue pond hockey tournament. About 200 athletes are hit the ice in one day. This is the first of two tournaments this year. Hockey players will also compete in a larger competition next weekend.
