    NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) – Niagara Falls is home to a lot of hidden gems. One of those is a theatre on Pine Avenue in one of the city’s historic buildings.

  • Worker opens up after sending false missile alert: ‘I did what I was trained to do’

    (KOHN)- For the first time, the fired state worker who sent a false missile alert is speaking out.
    On Saturday, Jan. 13, at 8:07 a.m., a Hawaii Emergency Management Agency employee mistakenly sent a statewide emergency alert to cell phones that read: “Ballistic missile threat inbound to Hawaii. Seek immediate shelter. This is not a drill.”

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The memorial ice rink at Nichols private school in Buffalo is getting a new name. The change comes weeks after an investigation revealed several teachers had inappropriate relationships with students. Hundreds of people signed a petition for the Dann Memorial Ice Rink to be renamed. As of Friday night, the name had already been removed from the building.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Congressional Republicans claim in a now-declassified memo that the FBI relied “extensively” on information from a politically motivated source to drum up dirt on Donald Trump during his 2016 campaign.
    The White House released the memo Friday, despite requests by the FBI and the Dept. of Justice to keep it secret.

    About 200 first- and second-graders in at Hoover Elementary in the Town of Tonawanda School District made valentines for local veterans- a program that State Sen. Chris Jacobs has been putting on since he was Erie County Clerk.

  • Mother who left baby in plastic bag for 72 hours sentenced to nine years

    ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) – Harriette Hoyt, the mother who abandoned her eight-month-old baby in a garbage bag outside of a home on Walnut St., in the City of Elmira last August, has been sentenced to serve nine years in prison.
    Hoyt agreed to plead guilty to attempted murder in the second degree back in December in order to receive a lesser sentence.
    If Hoyt had gone to trial and was found guilty of attempted murder, she could have faced up to 25 years in prison.

  • Buffalo Police investigating disturbing video depicting child pornography

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Buffalo Police are looking into a very disturbing video depicting child pornography that has been circulating on Facebook Friday.
    Police have opened an investigation into the matter and the FBI has been notified.  It’s unclear whether the video originated in Buffalo.
    Police say you could be charged with a federal crime for sharing the video on social media.

    (CNN) –  The New England Patriots are looking for a sixth title on Sunday when they face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII. That would tie the Pittsburgh Steelers for most Super Bowl wins.

    TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Tonawanda woman who pleaded guilty to stealing over $18,000 from a Tonawanda Elementary School was sentenced to three years probation and 200 hours of community service Friday.
    Jennifer Seyfang, 38, has admitted to stealing more than $18,000 from July 2016 to Sept. 2017, while she was serving as PTA treasurer at Charles A. Lindberg Elementary.
