  • Cattaraugus man charged with scheming to defraud

    OLEAN, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Cattaraugus County man has been charged with scheming to defraud after City of Olean Police say he went door to door in Olean, telling people that his vehicle had broken down and that he needed money to get home.
    Douglas I. Reed, 34, of Killbuck, was charged Monday evening with second degree scheming to defraud.

  • East Aurora man facing attempted murder charge

    EAST AURORA, N.Y. (WIVB) — An East Aurora man has been arraigned on an indictment charging him with attempted murder.
    Christopher Giafaglione, 48, was accused of repeatedly stabbing his girlfriend with a kitchen knife while screaming “I’m going to kill you and then kill myself.”

    LOS ANGELES (AP) — Mark Salling, one of the stars of the Fox musical comedy “Glee,” has died at age 35.
    Salling’s lawyer, Michael J. Proctor, tells The Associated Press the actor died Tuesday. His death comes weeks before the actor was scheduled to be sentenced in federal court on child pornography charges.

    JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (WIVB) — Police say a man was taken into custody on Tuesday after an armed standoff in Jamestown.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — An official document says the father of the boy who died during a house fire in Buffalo was not supposed to be on the premises.

  • California lawmaker wants to stop restaurants from providing plastic straws unless requested

    (WCMH) – A California lawmaker has introduced legislation making it a crime for a server to provide unsolicited plastic straws in restaurants.
    Ian Calderon, the majority leader in California’s lower house, introduced the measure a week ago.
    If passed, the bill would make it illegal to provide single-use plastic straws to consumers unless requested by the consumer. The legislation exempts take-out and fast food restaurants.

    EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – VTech is recalling about 280,000 baby rattles and more than 37,000 crib mobiles.
    According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the ears on the “Shake & Sing” elephant rattles can break off, posing a choking hazard to young children.

  • Father of 3-year-old who shot himself pleads not guilty

    TOWN OF BENNINGTON, N.Y. (WIVB) — The father of a three-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself pleaded not guilty in court.
    Matthew Howell, 42, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
    His son got a hold of his gun and shot himself in the chest. According to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s office, the gun was left out inside the home.
    The boy is expected to be okay. Howell is expected to be back in court on March 6.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- A playful, bright-eyed 7-year-old taken too soon; Anthony Conti died Monday morning after being rescued from his family’s burning home on Benzinger Street in Buffalo’s Lovejoy neighborhood.

  • Two-alarm fire breaks out at Kenmore Avenue restaurant

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Fire ripped through a Chinese restaurant on Kenmore Avenue Monday, causing $325,000 total worth of damage.
    The fire broke out around 5 p.m. Monday at May Jen Restaurant, 47 Kenmore Ave. The two-alarm fire took about 45 minutes to be brought under control.
