  • Feds: NY state could lose $14M in funding over highway signs

    ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The hundreds of tourism signs the Cuomo administration installed along New York’s highways could wind up costing the state $14 million in federal funding.

  • Body found in Niagara River in 2016 identified as undocumented alien

    LEWISTON, N.Y. (WIVB) — A body found in the Niagara River has been identified as an undocumented alien.
    Saul JesusVargas, who would have turned 55 last week, was a citizen of El Salvador. His body was found in the area of the Lewiston Sand Docks in July of 2016.
    Although in the United States illegally, he had various addresses in the country. The closest one to western New York was in Nassau County.
    Lewiston police do not know why he was in the western New York area.

    LOS ANGELES (AP) — Two students were shot and wounded, one critically, inside a Los Angeles middle school classroom Thursday morning and police took a female student into custody, authorities said.
    A 15-year-old boy hit in the head was transported to a trauma center in critical but stable condition, according to fire department spokesman Erik Scott. A 15-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to the wrist was taken to a hospital in fair condition, Scott said.

    LOS ANGELES (AP) — Two students were shot inside a Los Angeles middle school classroom Thursday morning and police arrested a female student suspect, authorities said.
    Gunfire erupted shortly before 9 a.m. at Salvador B. Castro Middle School just west of the city’s downtown, police said.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A report by the Attorney General’s Special Investigations and Prosecutions Unit states that Buffalo Police Officer Justin Tedesco did not act criminally when he shot and killed 26-year-old Jose Hernandez-Rossy last May.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Sources confirmed to News 4 that representatives from the office of New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman met with Buffalo police on the completed investigation into the death of Jose Hernandez-Rossy.
    News 4 has learned there will be no charges against either officer involved.
