• Ups sparks UB women to 84-80 win over Ball State

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Trailing 67-65 in the fourth quarter, Katherine Ups connected on three straight three-pointers, sparking the UB Women’s Basketball team to an 84-80 win over the road against Ball State on Saturday.
    Ups finished with 13 points while Cierra Dillard led UB with 20.
    The Bulls improve to 13-3 overall (4-1 MAC) and return to action Wednesday when they travel to Ohio.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Never before in the history of UB Men’s Basketball has the team started 4-0 in conference action.
    Behind 23 points from Jeremy Harris, the Bulls accomplished that feat in an 82-66 win over Miami on Saturday.
    The RedHawks kept in close with UB in the opening 20 minutes of action and trailed bye one, 34-33, at the break.  However, the Bulls kicked it into high gear in the second half using a 13-2 run to open up a 46-35 lead and never looked back.

  • Two men rescued after kayak overturns on Lockport creek

    LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB)-  Two men were rescued from a Lockport creek Saturday morning after their kayak overturned.
    Emergency crews rescued the 19-year-old and 20-year-old men from Mud Creek off Rapids Road just after 10 a.m.
    The men were taken by ambulance to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital for treatment due to exposure.

  • Hawaii officials say missile alert was mistake

    HONOLULU (AP) — A push alert that warned of an incoming ballistic missile to Hawaii and sent residents into a full-blown panic Saturday was a mistake, state emergency officials said.
    The emergency alert, which was sent to cellphones, said in all caps, “Ballistic missile threat inbound to Hawaii. Seek immediate shelter. This is not a drill.”
    Hawaii Emergency Management Agency spokesman Richard Repoza said it was a false alarm and the agency is trying to determine what happened.

    ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) – Orchard Park third-graders got a special visit on Friday.
    K-9 Shield and members of the Buffalo Police Department went to Eggert Elementary to visit and thank the children.
    The third-grade students created “tribute books” in memory of Officer Craig Lehner, who died in a diving drill last October.
    The kids researched Officer Lehner’s life and wrote about the character traits he possessed.
