    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A new record temperature was set for January 11 in Buffalo.
    The temperature reached 60 degrees, beating the old record of 59 degrees,

  • Village, county, and state crews respond to Silver Creek ice jams

    SILVER CREEK, N.Y. (WIVB) – Residents in Silver Creek received notifications via the reverse 9-1-1 system and the state alert system Thursday morning after ice jams on area creeks created flooding issues.
    Jeff Griewisch, Disaster Coordinator for the Village of Silver Creek, told News 4 it felt like a March thaw in January. He says within only ten minutes Thursday morning, he saw the ice on Walnut Creek go from totally flat to broken and troublesome.

  • Cheektowaga man accused of killing father to undergo further mental evaluations

    CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Cheektowaga man accused of fatally shooting his father pleaded that he is not responsible by reason of mental disease or defect.
    Prosecutors say that in April of last year, SirWilliam Hardy, 31, was at his Whitney Pl. home when he killed his 54-year-old father, California resident William Hardy.
    SirWilliam, who is in a wheelchair as the result of a 2011 motorcycle accident, previously pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and criminal weapon possession.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The United States’ first female Army general, a native of Buffalo, has died.
    Anna Mae Hays was born in the Queen City and served during World War II as a front-line nurse. She was stationed in Korea.
    Hays achieved the rank of brigadier general in 1970, being promoted from colonel.
    Her cause of death was a heart attack. She was 97.

    WEST SENECA, N.Y. (WIVB) — With warmer temperatures and rain in the forecast, many county officials and residents are concerned about possible flooding.
    Dozens of homeowners in West Seneca are fearful there could be a repeat major flooding event.
