  • NY Attorney General reports uptick in propane delivery issues during cold spell

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The office of State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has issued a consumer alert for residents who use propane to heat their homes.
    There has been an uptick of complaints about propane delivery delays and the potential for price gouging.
    “We have been seeing problems across the state,” said Assistant Attorney General Jim Morrissey, who works out of the Buffalo office.
    Morrissey says those issues are surfacing in the Central New York region and beyond.

    TOWN OF NIAGARA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Police in the Town of Niagara are reminding residents to lock their doors and windows after several burglaries took place in the Belden Center area.
    The burglaries have happened in the last few weeks, and only one of them involved forced entry. The majority of the homes had unlocked windows or doors.

    (CNN) — H&M was forced to apologize Monday for using a black child to model a sweatshirt with a “coolest monkey in the jungle” slogan.
    The company removed the offending ad from its website after hundreds of social media users accused it of being racist. It continues to sell the hooded top online.

    (WIVB) — A number of water main breaks were reported in Erie County on Monday morning.
    Shortly after 9:30 a.m., the Erie County Water Authority tweeted about three incidents in Cheektowaga, Evans and Tonawanda.
    The break in Cheektowaga closed Cleveland Dr. between Flora Rd. and “At The South East Corner,” the Water Authority wrote.

    NEW YORK (AP) — The Fire Department of New York says it’s at the scene of a fire at Trump Tower in Manhattan.
    The department says it was called around 7 a.m. Monday for a report of a fire on the top floor.
    Aerial views showed firefighters on the roof, with smoke billowing from one corner of the high-rise.
    There were no immediate reports of injuries.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — At least six people are without a home after a fire tore through the second floor of a house in Buffalo.
    It happened Monday around 5:15 a.m. on South St.
    Officials say the fire is still under investigation, but they believe a mattress on the second floor caught fire because someone was smoking.
    One resident tried to get the mattress out of the house, but it caused the fire to move faster.

  • Man accused of taking woman hostage, setting Batavia home on fire

    BATAVIA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A man was accused of taking a woman hostage at a Batavia home, and then setting it on fire.
    On Sunday morning, police rushed to the house on Washington Ave.
    They say Eddie Miles Jr. barricaded himself and his girlfriend inside.
    According to police, Miles threatened to shoot first responders if they approached the home. Police then noticed the smoke and flames.

  • Buffalo police investigate Newburgh Avenue shooting

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- Buffalo police are investigating a shooting that occurred late Friday night.
    Detectives say a 26-year-old Buffalo man was shot in the 300 block of Newburgh Avenue. He was transported to ECMC where he’s listed in stable condition.
