• HEAP Outreach to be held Wednesday in Buffalo

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) outreach will be held Wednesday at Autumnwood Senior Center, 1800 Clinton St.
    The outreach will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    All eligible households may submit an application to receive services for the Emergency H.E.A.P. benefit, as well as electric assistance, weatherization assistance, heating equipment repair or replacement assistance program, and the Heating Equipment (Furnace) Clean and Tune Assistance program.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Following an investigation into sexual abuse at Nichols School, two new proposed laws aim to provide greater protection for children in both public and private schools.
    Co-sponsored by State Sen. Chris Jacobs, the bills would eliminate the “private school loophole” and make it a criminal offense for a teacher to have a sexual relationship with a student under the age of 21.

  • Man killed in Chautauqua County vehicle fire

    SINCLAIRVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Randolph man was found dead when officials responded to a vehicle fire Tuesday morning.
    Shortly after 9 a.m., officials responded to a vehicle on fire in a ditch on Mill Creek Rd. in Sinclairville.
    The fire was extinguished, but the driver was still inside as it burned.
    The body of Charles Troutman, 65, was found.
    The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office says “nothing appears suspicious” in the matter.
  • Buffalo teen sentenced for double shooting

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo teenager will spend 25 years behind bars for a double shooting.
    Lawren Goins, 17, was sentenced for the October 2016 shooting that killed 16-year-old Kristian Piazza and injured 16-year-old Terrell Lockett.
    The incident took place in the vicinity of Leroy Ave. and Hill St. in Buffalo.
    Goins pleaded guilty to manslaughter and attempted murder in November.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — More than 40 beds were given to Child & Family Services in Buffalo Tuesday morning.
    The organization worked to help families in need of them during the holiday season.
    On Christmas morning, 25 people were able to wake up in a new bed. Despite this, more people were still in need of beds.
    Kaleida Health provided more than $7,000, and on Tuesday morning, even more beds were delivered to Child & Family Services.

    ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) — Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White was named Pro Football Focus’ Rookie of the Year.
    White was Buffalo’s first-round pick for this past season.

  • Parolee charged with assaulting woman with baseball bat

    SILVER SPRINGS, N.Y. (WIVB) — New York State Police arrested a Warsaw man who they say attacked a 19-year-old woman with a baseball bat.
    Cory Goodenow, 23, was arrested on Saturday and charged with assault, aggravated family offense, menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal obstruction of breathing.
    According to State Police, Goodenow, a parolee, attacked the victim multiple times at a house in Silver Springs. Authorities say the attacks happened on Friday.

  • Community stakeholders hope to start work soon on new 198 plans

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- The Scajaquada Expressway will stay the same, for now. The State Department of Transportation will not move forward with its current plan to redesign the 198.
    The DOT announced the decision on Monday following a decade of more than 40 public meetings.

    MONTREAL, QUEBEC (WIVB) – By now, the Navy had hoped that the new USS Little Rocj would be arriving at its home port near Jacksonville, Florida.
    Instead, the combat ship is docked in Montreal.

  • Fire breaks out in Wheatfield home

    WHEATFIELD, N.Y. (WIVB) – A chimney fire spread to the attic and second floor of a Danielle Drive residence early Monday morning.
    The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call at 2522 Danielle Drive around 4:50 a.m. on Monday.
    Responding fire companies were able to contain the fire in the upper floor and attic, preventing further damage. The three adult occupants of the home were inside when the fire started, and they were able to safely evacuate the residence.

  • Woman dies after contracting flesh-eating bacteria from oysters

    (CBS NEWS) – Back in September, Texas residents Vicki Bergquist and wife Jeanette LeBlanc were visiting family in Louisiana. They went crabbing with friends and family on the coast, picking up a sack of raw oysters in a market in Westwego.
