Apptio, which helps IT departments manage the software and services that they buy, had a strong public market debut Friday, jumping 40% above its opening price to close at $22.55 per share.
That gives Apptio — who also happens to be the first company to get funding from VC firm Andreessen Horowitz — a market cap of roughly $840 million, a jump from the $600 million valuation it commanded in its 2012 funding round, but slightly below the $22.69 share price it sold in it

It's official: Sanaz Zaimi is now the sole head of fixed income, currency, and commodity — FICC — sales at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
Zaimi took that job on an interim basis in March when her cohead, Bryan Weadock, went on leave. On Friday, Tom Montag, chief operating officer at the bank, said Weadock would not be returning.

West Texas Intermediate crude oil was down 4.06% at $44.44 a barrel on Friday afternoon after getting hit by a one-two punch of bad news. First, Bloomberg reported that a member of the Saudi delegation said he did not expect an agreement to freeze oil production to be reached at next week's meeting in Algiers, Algeria.
There had been hope that Saudi Arabia and Iran would be able to overcome their differences and agree on a freeze. Earlier Friday, Reuters reported that Saudi Arabia offered to red

China has given its bond traders the go-ahead to begin trading credit default swaps, an indication that the government is preparing for more big corporate bankruptcies, Bloomberg reports.
Credit default swaps allow investors to insure themselves against the default of a given security.

Salesforce is rumored to be one of the parties interested in buying Twitter, CNBC reported on Friday.
Why in the world would Salesforce, a business software company mostly used by salespeople, be interested in a consumer social media service like Twitter?
Quick answer: Twitter is one of the most widely used prospecting tools used by salespeople these days.
Long gone are the days of salespeople relying solely on existing Rolodexes and wining-and-dining tactics to sell stuff. Instead, they use soc
