The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) has formed a messenger app group comprised of members from its native advertising, social media and mobile committees who will come together to create a document that will help marketers better understand what messaging apps are and how they can be used to reach consumers.
According to the IAB, the working group, which currently has 40 members on board, will lead efforts to develop an outline for a document that will “help marketers and pu

JWT’s global CCO Matt Eastwood on what it takes to be a great creative
At Cannes Lions, The Drum caught up with J. Walter Thompson’s worldwide chief creative officer Matt Eastwood to find out what he thinks it takes to be a great creative.
While attracting top-tier talent to the ad industry has been a buzzy topic as of late, Eastwood believes that talent means nothing if it isn’t paired with passion.
“I think talent is a commodity in our industry,” he said. “Obviously you need talent to be a great creative, but talent is almost wasted -

Twitter’s stickers are the hashtag reborn for the visual world
Twitter has this week revealed the latest addition to its core product: #Stickers which can be placed on top of images to add a new layer of creativity. Of themselves they’re not a new concept, though no doubt will be a well-received one all the same, but where they break ground is in how they’ll also connect images to one another.
Clicking on one of the stickers within an image brings up a search for other uses of that same sticker, essentially bringing the hashtag squarely into the -

'Festivals are no longer a pitch-up and switch off affair': A marketer’s line-up to festival success
The worst mud in 20 years did nothing to dampen spirits as Glastonbury goers donned their wellies and waterproof onesies, flagged down a passing wheelbarrow, and made sure the soggy event was still something to tweet about.
In fact, the only accessory more popular than the rain mac was the smartphone. Organisers planted Wi-Fi hedges around the site to provide constant web access for revellers and network provider EE tripled its capacity to support a surge in mobile traffic. Consumers go to Glast -
SmileVector bot is making waves on Twitter, giving celebs a toothy grin
The bots are coming, and if programmed correctly, can provide unique (and automated) opportunities for brands. Take @SmileVector for example - this account has been plastering a smile on images of celebrities using a neural network to identify and modify facial features.
New Zealand lecturer at the Victoria University of Wellington School of Design, Tom White, trained his Twitter bot to identify smiles (by inputting many, many examples).
From here the bot has been planting unsettling smiles on f -

Why Ford and I Love NY partnered with 'Escape the Room'
As a major car company, it's not always easy to market a new vehicle launch, especially in a congested city like New York. Since so many New Yorkers commute from a driveable suburb, it's still important to reach them. Going beyond TV, video and even the web altogether is extremely important to create an experience that people will want to share.
To show off the new technology and features of the 207 Ford Escape, the Detroit-based car manufacturer partnered with Escape the Room. The popular activ -
Five influencer marketing myths holding your growth strategy back
Influencer marketing has been a secret weapon for large consumer brands to tap into focused targeted audiences. Think of how Yelp secures new markets with localized high profile foodies, how the Barclays Premier League utilized Vine to win 474,000,000 loops, or how Swiss luxury retailer de GRISOGONO generated 19,000,000 impressions from just 14 relevant influencers.

Let’s stop showing off about winning Lions and learn from each other instead
The Cannes Lions awards are all about celebrating creativity aren’t they? Yes, but let’s be honest, we all want to win one. We want to beat other agencies, we want to bask in the glory of displaying that statuette back in our offices, we want to show them off to our clients and we want to use them to gain new business. Awards mean recognition, and are the pinnacle of the creative process, right?
Not according to Facebook’s chief creative officer Mark D’Arcy. At a talk at -

Creative Work of the Week: Pride In London encourages Londoners to live life with #NoFilter
Pride In London’s #NoFilter campaign has won over The Drum readers to scoop Creative Work of the Week.
Created by WCRS, the idea comes from the fact that Pride is the one day when the minority becomes the majority and people feel free to express themselves with ‘No Filter’.

In addition to the film, which is running -

How can we get men involved in marketing's inclusivity conversation?
Having attended a few inclusivity conferences and events recently, I find myself in a room which is usually about 90 per cent female. Given that most people are now on board with the idea that inclusivity isn’t just about gender, how do we get more men along to be part of the conversation?
It is perhaps understandable that they're not coming. Men haven't, as yet, really been invited in to public spaces to talk about this particular issue. When they do talk, we have been guilty of -

It’s time for a Cannes Lions reality check
At times, the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity seems about as far removed from reality as possible. You have Channing Tatum giving his views on the advertising industry. Emails are answered while lying on the beach. And gallons and gallons of alcohol is drunk even on school nights (OK, maybe that last one isn’t so far-fetched).
So it’s been nice at Cannes this year to have a few moments that bring you back down to earth. A few doses of reality that make you realise that the whole -
“The kiss of death is to work with a brand that doesn't get you" - DJ superstars Gilles Peterson and Steve Angello discuss building relationships and working with brands
The ascendancy of the dance DJs and their dedicated global following offers valuable lessons to brands, a panel featuring global superstars Gilles Peterson and Steve Angello and chaired by Somethin’ Else’s Jez Nelson discussed at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
While DJs have been at the heart of music for more than 40 years, they have become trusted curators of music and brands in their own right. In a world where choice has become endless, thei -
Filthy Habits: Are your established routines restricting your success?
No, this article isn't about nuns in need of a good wash. It's about consumer behaviour. Human psychology. Interesting sciencey(ish) stuff.
When I say 'habit', what do you think of? Smoking, right? Drinking? Maybe drugs? All the things that teenagers think make them look much cooler than they actually are. These habits get a lot of exposure because they're particularly dangerous and quite difficult to break.
But we all have habits, albeit usually much more benign ones. A habit is defined by Goog
