The (virtual) reality of where shopping is headed
I consider myself fortunate to have grown up in the days of VHS tapes. I have great memories of going to the Blockbuster video store with friends to pick out the newest releases. We would walk up and down the aisles, look at the titles, shout out movie quotes and eventually decide on one to rent (somehow “Weekend at Bernie’s” and “My Cousin Vinny” were regular picks).
So it caught my eye when I saw Netflix experimenting with a virtual video store. Could it be -

Is David Beckham’s anti-Brexit stance a celebrity endorsement too far?

Independent experts have responded with contradictory reactions to the news, with the managing director of Ipsos Mori claiming that there is "no clear evidence endorsements like these have any impact." -
Vice Media’s CEO wants to build a native ad lab to fix mobile monetisation conundrum
Shane Smith, Vice Media’s chief executive, wants to build an in-house native ad team similar to the one he set up for its TV network in an attempt to use those learnings to finally monetise mobile effectively.
The youth-focused media channel was one of the early pioneers in the native ad game but has found mobile much harder to tackle than its other mediums. Most recently, the business has taken its “pre spots and dots” advertising, as Smith calls it, to TV. This has -

The Drum @ Cannes: Havas’ Paul Frampton on the future of fringe and festival
It is time to better integrate the fringe into the Cannes Lions festival proper, according to Havas Media Group group CEO Paul Frampton.
He says that Cannes has for the last few years felt like three disparate areas with the “bigger conversation” happening outside the doors of the Palais – along the strip with the tech media companies and in the port for the ad tech firm.
However, Frampton is hopeful of change. He says in a video interview for The Drum in partnership with Audie -

Making Alder Hey more human

The pros and cons of artificial intelligence
Is AI a threat to the human race as we know it?
PRO: Chris Bishop, director of Microsoft Research in Cambridge, said earlier this year that he believes the hyperbole around the AI risks could jeopardise any future developments that may in fact assist humanity.
“Any scenario in which AI is an existential threat to humanity is not just around the corner,” he told the Guardian.
Referring to the views of high-profile cynics like professor Stephen Hawking, Bishop said: “I -

Los Angeles Lakers star makes light of uncomfortable situation, trolls self, in new Foot Locker ad
Tomorrow, the NBA Draft gets rolling in the evening and there is great speculation that former Louisiana State University (LSU) forward Ben Simmons will be chosen by the Philadelphia 76ers (my beloved, torridly awful-of-late 76ers) in the top spot. In wasting no time, Simmons had already gotten on the endorsement train, with a Nike deal and two new spots for Foot Locker that will hit tomorrow during the draft.

Don't fear Brexit: Reasons to be cheerful about leaving the EU
After watching the #BBCDebate last night, I feel compelled to support the case for leaving the EU.
I am under no illusions that a vote to Leave will have negative consequences for the economy, as uncertainty usually has that effect until a new certainty emerges (which it will). Part of me is frightened of the turmoil that might ensue. But I feel that what happens in the long term is much more important. It’s horrifying to think that we will commit to a failing and increasingly federalist E -
