  While digging out some snow up in the Sierra, a Caltrans plow made a discovery that highlights just how much fresh powder has fallen recently.

• California Trying To Get Health Insurance To Cover In Vitro Fertilization

  SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – In vitro fertilization may be covered by health insurance in California soon.
  Currently, the Knox-Keen Health Care Service Plan Act of 1975 requires health care service plans and health insurers to offer coverage for infertility treatment, except in vitro fertilization. The law also exempts any employer, health care service plan, or health insurer that is a religious organization from offering infertility coverage.

  SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The days of the Big Gulp and other large soda cups may be done soon in California.
  A new bill would ban retailers from selling or giving away cups with removable lids that can hold more than 16 fluid ounces. Many times these cups are used for fountain soda or frozen sugary drinks. Stores caught selling the big cups would be fined $200 for the first violation, $500 for the second violation, and $1,000 for each subsequent violation.

  SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The checkout line at stores may look a lot different if an Assemblymember gets her way.
  Asm. Buffy Wicks drafted legislation to create the California Healthy Checkout Aisles for Healthy Families Act. • Rescue Crews Pull Out Horse That Was Stuck In Mud In Elverta

  ELVERTA (CBS13) – Sacramento Metro Fire crews helped get a horse out of some mud.
  The incident is happening at a ranch home along Lowell Street in the Sacramento County community of Elverta.
  A rescue crew and a Loomis Basin veterinarian responded to the scene.The recent rain has left thick mud in the area.

  Assembly Bill 697 would now require bicyclists to ride in the right-hand lane or bicycle lane.   SOUTH LAKE TAHOE (AP) — Record-cold weather followed the latest snowstorm into the Sierra, where the overnight low dropped to minus 13 degrees (minus 25 degrees Celsius) at South Lake Tahoe.
