• Opening Date Set For Elk Grove’s New Costco Store

    ELK GROVE (CBS13) – Elk Grove residents are now less than a month away from welcoming a new Costco store.
    Friday, the warehouse chain announced that the new 151,000 square-foot store on the corner of Elk Grove Boulevard and Bruceville Road will be officially opening on Sept. 27.
    Work has been underway for years to develop the lot where the Costco will now occupy. Groundbreaking at the lot was held in 2017.

  • Man Barricaded In South Sacramento Motel Taken Into Custody

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The latest on a barricaded suspect at a south Sacramento hotel:
    10:07 a.m.
    The suspect who had barricaded himself has been taken into custody.
    The man had been barricaded at America’s Best Value Inn off Mack Road since early Friday morning.
    Witnesses say the man had been shooting his weapon for hours before he barricaded himself in a room.

    DAVIS (AP) — University of California researchers are feeding seaweed to dairy cows in an attempt to make cattle more climate-friendly.
    UC Davis is studying whether adding small amounts of seaweed to cattle feed can help reduce their emissions of methane, a potent greenhouse gas that’s released when cattle burp, pass gas or make manure.

  • Man Barricaded In South Sacramento Motel, Shots Reportedly Fired At Officers

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A man has barricaded himself inside a south Sacramento hotel and has reportedly fired shots in the direction of officers.
    This incident is happening on Massie Court, near Mack Road and Highway 99.
    It all started just after 1:30 a.m. Friday. Guests at America’s Best Value Inn heard gunshots and say they were asked to leave the hotel by police.
    Sacramento police officers are negotiating with the suspect.

    SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit seeking to block a California law requiring pharmaceutical companies to give advance notice before big price increases.

    REDDING (AP/CBS13) — A massive California wildfire that destroyed more than 1,000 homes and claimed eight lives has been fully contained.
    State fire officials announced Thursday that the Carr Fire is surrounded. However, firefighters will continue to patrol the area for several days and crews are still working on repairing broken fences and other damage caused by firefighters.

    STOCKTON (CBS13) — A missing Stockton girl is back home safe and sound with her parents, and the man she was with, a volunteer high school wrestling coach, is behind bars.
    The two were reported missing more than a week ago. Deputies with the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office were chasing numerous leads, but it was an anonymous tip that lead them to 25-year-old Philip Maglaya.
