• Head-On Traffic Collision On Highway 65 Turned Fatal

    2:30 p.m. UPDATE: All lanes are open again.
    LINCOLN (CBS13) — A major injury crash on Highway 65 turned fatal Friday afternoon.
    The crash took place just after noon on Highway 65 before 12 Bridges Drive.
    Northbound Traffic was closed down and Caltrans warned of heavy delays. There is no estimated time of clearing.

  • Fatal Accident In Modesto May Be Due To Medical Condition

    MODESTO (CBS13) — Modesto police are investigating a fatal traffic accident on Collision on Pelandale Ave, between Sisk Rd and Gagos Dr in Northwest Modesto.
    Officers said when they arrived they found one elderly driver unconscious, and when firefighters arrived they started life-saving procedures, but she was still unresponsive.
    The woman was taken to an area hospital where she later died.
    Officers are investigating the cause of the collision and it appears to be a medical condition.

    SAN ANDREAS (CBS13) — The Calavares County Sheriff’s office says a man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Calaveras County Thursday night.
    Officials said that when officers arrived on the scene, they encountered a white male subject holding a long back object which appeared to be a rifle or long firearm.

  • Elderly Woman Knocked Down, Purse Stolen At Sprouts In Citrus Heights

    CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) — Citrus Heights Police are asking for help to identify a robbery suspect.

    Police say the suspect knocked down an elderly female at Sprouts on Monday.
    The suspect then stole the victim’s purse and allegedly fled the scene on foot.
    According to police, the victim sustained minor injuries.

  • Yuba City Police Searching For Missing Children, Mother Who Fled Hospital

    YUBA CITY (CBS13) — The Yuba City Police Department is searching for two missing children and their mother after she fled a hospital on Wednesday.
    Police say Tina Baiz was at Rideout Memorial Hospital with her 11-month-old boy named Zeke on Wednesday night.Police believe Baiz found out the child tested positive for drugs and left with the child. Zeke was still attached to an IV at the time.
    Baiz, Zeke and her 2-year-old daughter have not been seen since she left.

    GRASS VALLEY (CBS13) — It’s an unusual purchase out of Nevada County: An animal sanctuary now has its own fire engine.
    Animal Care in Grass Valley just bought the engine last week from the Higgins Fire District after a compost fire next-door burned up to its property line in June.

  • Elk Grove Man Accused Of Starting Shingle Fire With Illegal Fireworks

    ELK GROVE (CBS13) — An Elk Grove man has been arrested, accused of starting a 316-acre grass fire with illegal fireworks.
    Jacob Morris, 21, of Elk Grove, was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of starting the Shingle Fire.
    The grass fire burned 316 acres of grass and trees near Rancho Murieta and Latrobe, though no structures were destroyed.
    Investigators say Morris caused the fire recklessly by using illegal fireworks.
    Morris is due in court on Wednesday morning.

    MODESTO (CBS13) — A late night traffic collision between a bike and a vehicle ended in a fatality on the Fourth of July.
    Modesto Police came upon the collision involving a bicyclist and a vehicle that occurred at the intersection of W. Briggsmore Avenue and College Avenue around 9 p.m. Wednesday night.
    Police say that Dean Lovelady, 57, was driving his vehicle westbound on W. Briggsmore Avenue as an unidentified 60-year-old male entered the intersection on a bicycle.
