The weed industry is being hit with a double whammy
The legal-weed industry faces many unique challenges to doing business.
Most companies in the space are frozen out of banks, can't use credit cards for transactions, and can't get loans. It all creates huge headaches for the industry.
On top of that, marijuana is like any other commodity: When there's a supply glut, the price plummets. And that's exactly what's happening in legal markets like Colorado.
Cultivators are ramping up production and the price of marijuana is dropping, causing profit

Here's what the EpiPen maker says about why it won't just cut the drug's price (MYL)
The pharmaceutical company in hot water over the price of the EpiPen just answered a major question on everyone's minds.
Why doesn't it just cut the price?
The EpiPen, a device used in emergencies to treat severe allergic reactions, costs 500% more than it did when Mylan acquired it in 2007.
To fend off public outrage over the EpiPen's cost, Mylan has done anything but cut the list price of the drug, which is $600 for a two pack.
It has raised its copay-coupon system t

The summer is over, complacency is dead, and markets are fun again
    Global markets are great again!
On Friday, after more than 40 straight days of the S&P 500 closing inside of a 1% range, markets are selling off as the meme of the summer dies a quick death.
Complacency, the dominant theme in markets for the two months since the June 23 Brexit vote in the UK, has felt as though it's been the only theme in markets. And now, it seems, this is over.
Near 2:30 p.m. ET on Friday, the Dow was down over 300 points, the S&P 500 was down 43 points, and the Nasdaq

There's finally some action in the stock market again (SPY, SPX, DJI, IXIC)
The major stock-market averages are making their largest intra-day moves in months.
They are lower on Friday, and the S&P 500 could break its long streak of quietness.
The benchmark index has not closed with a 1% or larger up or down move since the sell-off after the UK referendum, adding up to 53 straight trading days.
Amid the sell-off on Friday, the S&P 500 fell by nearly 2%, with all its ten sectors lower.

The latest iPhones are very bad news for digital cameras (AAPL)
The latest iPhones are all about the cameras. Apple took plenty of time at its most recent product showcase to trump up its new shooters, particularly with regard to the dual cameras it’s put in the iPhone 7 Plus. We can’t say exactly how effective its changes will be, but Apple has a stellar record when it comes to mobile camera quality, and some aspects of that dual-lens system have already excited hardcore photographers.
And that’s more bad news for

The gas-rig count increased by four to 92. With miscellaneous rigs unchanged at two, the total rig count rose by 11 to 508.
Last week, the oil-rig count resumed its climb after a one-week pause. The number of active rigs totaled 407, with one rig brought online.
This tally has gained in 10 out of the last 11 weeks.

Ford is buying Y Combinator shuttle-van startup Chariot in an all-cash deal (F)
For over 100 years, Ford concentrated on building iconic cars and trucks. But under the leadership of CEO Mark Fields, on the job since 2014, the automaker is transforming into a company that isn't afraid to invest in buses and bikes.
On Friday, Ford announced that it will acquire Chariot, a San Francisco-based shuttle service founded in 2014 that's currently operating a fleet of Ford Transit vans.
Ford didn't disclose the purchase price but said that it was an all-cash deal.

Canada's housing bubble is now a 'tale of 2 cities'
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness..."
That's part of the opening line of Charles Dickens' oft-quoted but rarely read novel "A Tale of Two Cities."
In a recent note to clients, Capital Economics' Canada team suggested that the book's title actually serves to explain what's going on in the Canadian housing market bubble right now.
And although it's not a perfect metaphor, it still an interesting way to contextualize things

Building wealth isn't just about numbers.
    It's also about the mindset.

The world's governments now have around $60 trillion in debt which is then sold to investors as bonds.
    So who owns this debt?
In a note sent out to clients on Friday, Deutsche Bank chief global economist Torsten Sløk broke down who owns various countries' debts. One chart breaks down debt ownership for selected developed markets and the other for emerging market countries.

Wells Fargo's scandal is a cautionary tale about incentive pay (WFC)
Wells Fargo has fired thousands of employees and incurred fines totaling $185 million because of a widespread practice of employees opening new accounts for existing customers without their authorization.
One remarkable aspect of this story is that the abusive practices were often unprofitable for the bank, where I worked from 2005 to 2009. As The New York Times describes:
"In many cases, customers took notice only when they received a letter in the mail congratulating them on opening a new acco

There is nothing like being named one of Marketing Week’s Vision 100 to prompt the question: Who, me?
Perhaps there are 99 genuine visionaries in our industry this year but I’m comfortable exempting myself. It’s no disrespect to the many talented and successful Vision 100 inductees to suggest that visionaries are very rare; that only one or two come along in a generation; that it takes a lifetime to judge success.

Morgan Stanley is losing its conviction about the oil market's future.
Adam Longson, head of energy commodity research, forecasts that a market re-balancing is due around mid-2017. In other words, the market would no longer be oversupplied, as output demand growth catches up to supply.
