    CHICAGO and ATLANTA (CBS13) – 80% of employers plan to hire graduates from the Class of 2018, according to a new CareerBuilder survey, up from 74% who planned to hire graduates from the Class of 2017. In 2008 only 58% planned to hire new graduates.

    SACRAMENTO (AP) – California has awarded nearly $2 million in compensation to a former inmate wrongly imprisoned for nearly 40 years.
    Gov. Jerry Brown on Thursday signed the law giving 70-year-old Craig Richard Coley $140 for each day he was in prison.
    Coley spent 39 years behind bars after he was wrongly convicted of killing his girlfriend, 24-year-old Rhonda Wicht of Simi Valley, and her 4-year-old son in 1978.

  • Sheriff: San Andreas Boy, 3, Drowns In Neighbor’s Pool

    SAN ANDREAS (CBS13) – Authorities are investigating after a three-year-old boy drowned in a neighbor’s pool on Wednesday.
    The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office says, a little before 6:30 p.m., they were asked to help find a young boy who had wandered away from his home on Pine Street in the San Andreas area.
    Sheriff’s deputies, firefighters, medics, California Highway Patrol and search and rescue crews all responded to the scene to help try and find the boy.

    ROCKLIN (CBS13) – A Rocklin family is suing Papa Murphy’s saying their child got sick after eating E. Coli contaminated romaine lettuce in early April.
    The 6-year-old’s mother, Taylor Fitzgerald, says a few days after eating the salad her son had bloody diarrhea, fever, and severe cramps. She took him to the emergency room and he was admitted to Sutter Medical Center in Sacramento on April 14. Doctors later diagnosed him with hemolytic uremic syndrome, a type of kidney failure.

    TURLOCK (CBS13) – Detectives have made two arrests in connection to the January flooding incident of a Turlock apartment building.
    Turlock police said several water valves were intentionally opened back on Jan. 14, allowing water from the fire suppression system to flood the Vista Apartments building. Surveillance video revealed several people were at the scene.

    STOCKTON (CBS13) – A man is facing attempted murder charges after a shooting in Stockton on Monday.
    The incident happened at an apartment complex little after 3:30 p.m. near Bianchi and Kentfield roads. Stockton police say a 23-year-old man was found at the scene; he had been shot.

  • More Than 1 Million Cats Saved By Cutting Euthanasia Rates

    UC DAVIS (CBS13) — Four years ago an initiative was started by UC Davis called the “Million Cat Challenge.”
    It was basically a push to save 1 million cats from euthanization in five years. They only needed four years to reach that goal.
