  • Majority Of Americans Say They’re Not Comfortable With Autonomous Vehicles

    WALNUT CREEK (CBS13) – Nearly three-quarters (73%) of Americans say they wouldn’t feel comfortable riding in an autonomous vehicle, according to a new report from AAA.
    In January only 63% of people said they would be uncomfortable.

  • Bomb Threat Prompts Ceres Elementary School To Evacuate

    CERES (CBS13) – The latest on a bomb threat to a Ceres school on Tuesday:
    2:25 p.m.
    Police say they’ve finished their search of the Sinclear Elementary School and have come up empty.
    The Ceres Police Department says the only suspicious item found during their search turned out to be an unattended musical instrument in its case.
    Officers have now given the all clear.
    Students were bused to Central Valley High School. The roads closed around the school have been reopened.

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Husband and father of two, Nicholas Gordon says his career college went belly up during his first semester and the government took his tax refund to pay for an education he didn’t get.
    Gordon enrolled at Heald College hoping to get an IT degree, but a month and a half in he found himself caught in the Corinthian College shutdown.

  • People Trapped In Garages During Wine Country Wildfires Inspire Bill

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Automatic garage doors may soon need to be equipped with backup batteries in case of a power failure.
    Senate Bill 969 was introduced by California Senator Bill Dodd after the October wildfires in Wine Country. He could not open his wooden garage door because the power was already out in his Napa neighborhood.

  • Search On For Suspect, 19, In West Sacramento Shooting

    WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Detectives have identified a suspect in the shooting that left a person hurt in West Sacramento on Monday.
    The shooting happened near the 500 block of C Street a little after 12:30 p.m. A person with a gunshot wound was found at the scene; that person was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

  • Driverless Cars Might Be Tested On Sacramento Streets Soon

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A driverless car system could come to Sacramento soon.
    Phantom Auto, based in Mountain View, is working with the City of Sacramento to launch a test program on city streets.
    The Sacramento Business Journal first reported the discussions. A City of Sacramento Public Information Officer confirmed the details to CBS13.

    SACRAMENTO (AP) — California’s attorney general is asking an appeals court to quickly block a judge’s decision to toss a 2016 state law allowing the terminally ill to end their lives.

    DETROIT (AP/CBS13) — Long emergency stopping distances, difficult-to-use controls and a harsh ride stopped Tesla’s Model 3 electric car from getting a recommended buy rating from Consumer Reports.

    VALLEJO (CBS13) – A baby sea lion was born at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.
    The pup was born to 4-year-old Pebbles at 7 pm on May 20 at the Six Flags Seal Cove. Zookeepers don’t know if the sea lion is a boy or a girl just yet.
    Pebbles is a first-time mom. A park spokesperson said her maternal instincts kicked in immediately and the pup started nursing soon after birth- indicating it’s healthy.

  • Gun Violence Restraining Order Law May Expand in California

    SACRAMENTO (AP) — California lawmakers are taking steps to let school employees ask judges to temporarily strip gun rights from potentially dangerous people.
    The state Assembly passed a bill Monday that would allow school employees and co-workers to request gun violence restraining orders against people who show warning signs of violence.
    California is one of a handful of states that already allow immediate family members and police to request such restraining orders.
