• Ultra-Runners From All 50 States, 35 Countries, Take On Leadville 100

    LEADVILLE, Colo. (CBS4) – More than 600 runners started the 35th annual Leadville Trail 100 Friday.
    The first finisher broke the tape more than 17.5 hours later.
    Ian Sharman, a British citizen from Bend, Oregon, won for the fourth time in 17:34:51. It was his third straight victory in the iconic “Race Across the Sky.”
    Two Denver men, David Tierney (18:32:34) and Michael Hewitt (18:59:45), came in second and third.

    DENVER (CBS4) – Denver Zoo keepers got one of their latest additions his own special eclipse glasses.
    Apparently staff saw a lot of patrons walking around with eclipse glasses, so “Dobby’s keepers got him in on the fun, too!”When he was born at the end of February, Dobby initially struggled with health problems. Now he tips the scales at a healthy 264 pounds, and is standing nearly seven-feet-tall.

  • Dancers Greet Students On First Day Of School For DPS

    DENVER (CBS4) – Summer break has come to an end for students in Colorado’s largest school district.

    It was the first day back in class for about 92,000 students in Denver Public Schools, and it was a full day of learning about the solar eclipse for many of the schools.
    Students and parents at Goldrick Elementary School in south Denver had quite the welcome, complete with singing and dancing. Superintendent Tom Boasberg was also on hand to greet students.

    CBS4 Meteorologist Ashton Altieri says the city saw a dip of two to three degrees for the eclipse.

    HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (CBS4) – The Great American Eclipse on Monday provided Colorado students with a great learning experience.

    At Bear Canyon Elementary School in Highlands Ranch, students used the viewing of the solar event as a science lesson.

    DENVER (CBS4) – The path of totality for the 2045 total solar eclipse will cross directly over Colorado.
    For Monday’s eclipse, the best Colorado saw was 99 percent in the far northeastern city of Julesburg, while most of the state experienced 92 percent or less.

    CBS Local — A federal judge in Florida has refused to delay a case because a member of the prosecution wanted to view the Aug. 21 solar eclipse.     DENVER (AP) — Congressman Ed Perlmutter is reversing himself and announcing he’ll run for re-election.
    Perlmutter had initially announced he was giving up his congressional seat to run for Colorado governor. But he dropped out of that race last month.     DENVER (AP) – Thousands of people headed though Colorado over the weekend for a chance to see the total solar eclipse.
    The Colorado Department of Transportation estimate that 34,000 vehicles traveled to Wyoming.

    GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — The U.S. Forest Service is set to unveil its long-awaited proposed Hanging Lake Area Management Plan.
    The Post Independent reports the Forest Service will unveil the plan Tuesday and is expected to propose a fee and shuttle system that would eliminate the parking crunch caused by increasing crowds at the lake.

    Dylan Thompson was wanted in the stabbing death of 65-year-old Bill Grabusky last month.
