  • Jamestown man indicted on multiple counts of enticement and sex trafficking involving minors

    A Jamestown man could spend life in prison following his indictment on multiple counts of enticing a minor, sex trafficking and the possession and distribution of child pornography.
    The initial incident was back in 2014 when 37-year-old James A. Chapman tried to coerce two minors to engage in prostitution and sexual activity, according to the U.S. Attorneys office. Subsequently, Chapman distributed an image he possessed of the two on multiple occasions.

    ALFRED, N.Y. (WIVB) –  A Lockport man is facing charges after hateful images were posted around an Alfred State University residence hall.
    Colin L. Kroening, 20, of Lockport, was charged Thursday with first degree aggravated harassment and fourth degree criminal mischief as a hate crime by Alfred State University Police.

    ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A 45-year-old man managed to sign a 16-year-old girl out of her school 10 times in the last few months, and now the two are missing, police said.
    Allentown police issued a missing person alert Wednesday for Kevin Esterly and Amy Yu. A warrant for Esterly’s arrest for interference with the custody of a child also was issued Wednesday, according to the Allentown Morning Call.

    ALBION,  N.Y. (WIVB) – An Orleans County couple has been charged with sexually assaulting children by Albion Police.
    Richard L. Hering, Jr., 45, was charged with two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, four counts of forcible touching, and six counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
    Renee D. Koch, 54, was charged with  two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, two counts of forcible touching and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

    (AP) – President Donald Trump is suggesting that Australia and “other countries” may be exempted from steel and aluminum tariffs, along with Mexico and Canada.
    Trump says he’s sticking with his initial plan for import tariffs of 25 percent on steel and 10 percent on aluminum. But the president says, “We’re going to be very flexible.”

  • Pennsylvania man pleads guilty to producing child pornography

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Pennsylvania man has pleaded guilty to production of child pornography after communicating with a minor from Cheektowaga online, coercing her to share sexually explicit pictures with him.
    Thomas A. Gillespie, 44, of East Brady, Penn., faces at least 15 years in prison and a maximum sentence of 30 years, as well as a $250,000 fine.

  • Man shot in Riverside Ave. apartment

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Buffalo police are investigating a shooting on Riverside Ave.
    On Wednesday night, around 9:45 p.m., police say a domestic situation occurred in an apartment, and a 48-year-old Buffalo man was shot.
    Police only identified the suspect as a man. One person is in custody.
    All people involved in the situation are known to each other, police say.
    The victim was taken to ECMC, where he was treated and released.
  • Case of Buffalo officer accused of tripping suspect moving forward

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The case against a suspended Buffalo police officer is moving forward.
    Joseph Hassett faces several charges. He was accused of tripping a handcuffed suspect in custody last year.
    On Wednesday, attorneys for the officer asked the judge to toss out the indictment against their client. They said they believe the grand jury process was compromised.
    The request was denied and his assault charges will stand.
    Hassett is due back in court next Friday.

    PERRY, N.Y. (WIVB) — A retired sheriff’s deputy is in jail this morning, charged with second-degree murder.
    Joe Mlyniec was arraigned late Thursday, according to Donald O’Geen, Wyoming County District Attorney.
    Prosecutors say Mlyniec, who is also a member of the Perry Town Board, shot and killed Robert Irvine III at Mlyniec’s house, on New York State Route 246 in Perry.
