    BUFFALO. N.Y. (WIVB)- Onco360 and CareMed Specialty Pharmacy recently reported a data breach to the Department of Health and Human Services.
    According to a company statement, suspicious activity was noticed in November when an unauthorized user gained access to three employee emails.
    A company statement reports information affected could include patient data, medical information, and social security numbers.

  • Buffalo VA has rescheduled some surgeries due to discoloration in sterilization packages

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Buffalo VA Medical Center has rescheduled some surgical procedures after discovering discoloration on white tray liners in some of their sterilization packages.
    According to a statement released Tuesday by the VA, the discoloration was discovered during routine quality reviews of sterile processing.

    (CNN) – A Tesla Model S crashed into a fire truck while driving down a California highway, according to Culver City, California, firefighters.
    A tweet by the local firefighter’s union Monday showed a photo of a Tesla Model S with its nose wedged under the back end of a fire truck and its hood badly wrinkled. The car had been traveling at 65 miles an hour, the tweet said.

    ATTICA, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Attica Police Department is warning residents about an attempted scam over the weekend involving a caller falsely representing himself as a member of the internet-based computer company “Geek Squad”.
    According to police, an elderly resident received a call from a person claiming to be a “Geek Squad” representative. The caller identified himself as “Mark” and had an accent.

  • Mobile treatment centers now in service in fight against opioids

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Erie County has a new tool in the fight against opioid addiction. There’s a new treatment program in our community that is mobile.
    The ribbon was cut Tuesday on two RVs that will serve as mobile treatment centers. Best Self Behavioral Health is putting the mobile units into service. State officials helped divert $1.7 million to Best Self. All of it is earmarked to increase access to opioid addiction treatment.

  • Former Buffalo Police commissioner Daniel Derenda takes new position at security company

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Former Buffalo Police commissioner Daniel Derenda has joined the private sector, taking a position with a security company.
    Derenda, who spent 32 years with the Buffalo Police Department, has joined G4S Secure Solutions USA as the general manager of the company’s Buffalo office.
    In his new role, Derenda will oversee customer relationships, sales and operations in the Buffalo area.

  • Man who stole from UB dorms sentenced

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A man who stole keys and wallets from residence halls and dorm rooms at the University at Buffalo was sentenced.
    Prosecutors say Darnell Cleveland, 21, stole the items and used students’ vehicles and credit cards to buy things for himself. This occurred between July and September last year.
    Cleveland pleaded guilty to burglary, forgery, identity theft and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

  • DPW: Water in south Buffalo not rising to “dangerous level”

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — As residents of south Buffalo prepared for possible flooding this week, DPW Commissioner Steve Stepniak gave an update on action being taken by the city.
    The arm of an excavator checked for possible ice jams near the Stevenson St. bridge on Tuesday afternoon. As this was happening, Stepniak stated that this ice isn’t as thick as some seen two weeks ago.

  • Buffalo police looking for suspects in Monday bank robbery

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Police in Buffalo say two people robbed an M&T Bank branch on the 1300 block of Jefferson Ave.
    According to authorities, the theft happened Monday around 2:10 p.m.
    They say the suspects passed a note to a teller, demanding money. The suspects were last seen heading northbound on Jefferson.

  • Genesee County man charged with sex abuse, child endangerment

    BYRON, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Genesee County man is facing multiple charges related to unwanted sexual contact, New York State Police say.
    Byron resident Anthony Miraglia, 18, was accused of unlawful imprisonment, forcible touching, endangering the welfare of a child and sexual abuse.

  • Bill proposes lowering age to get a hunting license in NY

    ALBANY, N.Y. (WIVB) — A bill, if signed into law, would lower the state’s legal age to get a hunting license to 12.
    Currently, the age when people can legally get a hunting license in New York is 14.
    The bill has passed in the New York State Senate, but it also must be approved by the Assembly and Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

    (WIVB) — The nominees for the worst films of the year have been released.
    Those in line for the 38th annual Golden Raspberry Awards, or “Razzies,” include The Emoji Movie, Transformers: The Last Knight, Fifty Shades Darker, The Mummy and Baywatch.

    BENTON, Ky. (AP) — Authorities are reporting one person was killed and many were wounded in a high school shooting in rural Kentucky.
    Gov. Matt Bevin tweeted that it happened Tuesday morning at Marshall County High School.

    A plan by National Grid would raise electricity rates by as much as 11 percent over the next three years.

    ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck off Alaska’s Kodiak Island early Tuesday, prompting a tsunami warning for a large swath of the state’s coast and sending some residents fleeing to higher ground.

    DALLAS (AP) — A 16-year-old boy accused of shooting a classmate at a Texas high school on Monday had a history of aggressive actions at school, a fellow student said.
    The injured student, a 15-year-old girl, was airlifted to a hospital in Dallas following the shooting inside the cafeteria at Italy High School, which is in the small town of Italy about 40 miles south of Dallas.
