  • Arrest warrant issued for man who neglected 11 cows in Cattaraugus County

    COLD SPRING, NY.Y (WIVB)- An arrest warrant has been issued for a Willoughby, Ohio man accused of animal abuse in Cattaraugus County.
    42-year-old Charles Brickman is accused of abandonment and cruelty to animals after neglecting to take care of 11 cows on his Lebanon Road property.
    The Sheriff reports that Brickman failed to provide food, water and shelter for the cows. He is also accused of leaving the area without setting up care for the animals.

  • Niagara County K9 passes away

    LOCKPORT, N,Y, (WIVB)- The Niagara County Sheriff’s office has announced the passing of canine officer EJ.
    The canine’s handler, Deputy Richard Bull, discovered Canine EJ unresponsive inside his kennel. Preliminary findings suggest Canine EJ passed away from a medical condition known as gastric torsion of the stomach; however, an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the true cause of death.
    EJ came to the Sheriff’s office from Hungary and started in March 2017.

  • Sanctuary removes 24 pigs from New York farm

    WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (AP) — The animal protection group Farm Sanctuary says 24 pigs have been removed from a western New York farm, where they were being kept in inhumane conditions.
    Farm Sanctuary said Friday that it collaborated with the Cattaraugus County SPCA on Tuesday’s rescue.
    The organizations worked together on a 2002 case at the same farm involving 125 neglected pigs.
    Most of the pigs seized earlier this week were between one and six months old.

    (CNN) – When authorities arrived Sunday night to a home in the California town of Perris, they found a family with 13 children, most of them starved and startlingly skinny.

    NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) – Niagara Falls Police are investigating a serious hit-and-run accident that happened Friday afternoon at 24th Street and Independence Avenue.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)-  Alvin “Duke’ McDowell was shot and killed New Year’s Day 2017.
    His death was the second homicide of the year, and it remains unsolved.
    “Somebody did see or hear something that night,” said McDowell’s mother, Lucrecia Watkins.
    She’s hoping someone will speak up and help homicide detectives solve her son’s murder.
