EMR | Specialist Marketing Recruitment: Digital Campaign Manager (Video, Social, Email)

Mark Ritson: Maybe it’s just me, but shouldn’t an ‘expert’ in marketing be trained in marketing?
Sitting on a train on Friday grading exam papers I got a tweet from marketing consultant Glen Gilmore. The tweet was a little grid of 24 headshots and the message, “24 Marketers you Should Follow on Twitter”.
Intrigued, I clicked the link and discovered it was actually an article by Nicholas Scalice for Earnworthy.com in which he presented a list of his “24 top-notch marketers”. I scrolled through the list. Some of the faces were familiar to me and I smiled when Gilmore -

Apple could make more money from Pokemon Go than Nintendo (AAPL, GOOG, GOOGL)
Now that it's clear that Pokemon Go is a bit of a phenomenon, the question is which tech companies stand to win or lose from the millions of people running around cities catching cartoons.
Although Pokemon Go is free to play, like most mobile games, it offers in-app purchases, which have already started to rake in money.

Americans don't want to buy things anymore
Traditional retail is having a tough go of it lately. Declining sales, pressure from online stores, and the fickle tastes of young people have all pressured the old guard of shopping.
On Tuesday, Bank of America Merril Lynch had some more bad news for the mall stalwarts. No one wants to buy goods anymore.
Using the aggregated data of Bank of America debit and credit card holders, US Economist Michelle Meyer identified a growing trend in customers' spending habits: Instead of purch -
Job openings unexpectedly fall in May
The number of job openings in the US fell to 5.5 million in May, according to the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey.
It dropped from a record 5.845 million openings in the prior month, revised higher in Tuesday's report.
Economists had forecast that there were 5.65 million job openings during that month, according to Bloomberg.
Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen is fond of this report because beyond the number of jobs being created, it tells us about how much tig -

JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon wants to make America great again.
In an op-ed article published in The New York Times on Tuesday, Dimon outlined a plan for the firm to raise wages for overtime-eligible employees over the next three years.
The firm's minimum wage for its 18,000 hourly employees will move from $10.15 an hour to a range of $12 to $16.50 depending on market and location. It's a move similar to that announced by Starbucks on Monday.
In his article, Dimon wrote that a pay increase was "the -

Wall Street's hottest take on Tesla's 'Top Secret Master Plan' is out
Over the weekend billionaire Elon Musk tweeted that he's about to release a "Top Secret Master Plan (Part 2)" for Tesla, his electric car company.
So naturally, Wall Street started speculating wildly as to what this could be. No one likes secrets, you see.
And there is perhaps no one on Wall Street more equipped to muse on Musk than Adam Jonas over at Morgan Stanley. On Tuesday morning, he published his take on what the plan might be.
In one sentence, Tesla is about to move from being a sim -

Ebay could launch pop-ups in Sainsbury’s stores as it talks up the ‘power’ of physical retail
The supermarket giant’s £1.3bn acquisition of Argos-owner the Home Retail Group will create 1,000 new jobs and is expected to result in many Argos stores being transformed as concessions within Sainsbury’s larger stores.
Ebay already has a partnership with Argos (pictured) that allows its 200,000 UK sellers to drop off sold products across the brand’s estate – which Argos then delivers – or for buyers to collect items. The online auction brand also launched po -

GEORGE SOROS: Here's how the European Union can be saved

"The post-referendum turmoil has highlighted for people in Britain just what they stand to lose by leaving the EU," wrote in an op-ed for Project Syndicate.
"If this sentiment spreads to the rest of Europe, what seemed like the in -

Alcoa beats earnings expectations, shares jump (AA)
Earnings season is off to a good start.
Aluminum giant Alcoa on Monday reported second-quarter earnings and revenues that declined year-on-year but beat analysts' expectations after the closing bell.
Total alumina production and shipments were down in the second quarter from a year ago.
These were a drag on the company's bottom line, although they were offset by gains in other industries such as aerospace.
The company reported $0.15 in adjusted earnings per share (EPS) and revenu -

Italy isn't the only European country with 'a systemic banking crisis'
Last week everyone was clamoring about Italy.
In the aftermath of the UK's European Union referendum, markets started worrying about what a British exit from the EU, or Brexit, would mean for one of the euro area's sore spots: Italian banks.
But this week attention has started to shift over to Portugal — and not just because of its victory over France in the Euro 2016 final.
Rather, markets are once again feeling antsy about the Iberian nation's banking problems as macroeconomic condition -

Some of China's biggest companies just hit a regulatory brick wall
"I saw it on the internet, so it has to be true!"
You may laugh at that phrase, but China is trying to do something about it.
Internet advertising in the country will now be subject to increased regulations including checks against misleading and malicious ads, which will take effect September 1, 2016.
This could impact some of the largest internet companies in the county.
Chinese internet giants Baidu and Alibaba both rely heavily on advertising revenue. Baidu, a search engine like Go -
Dropbox CEO used a Steph Curry analogy to downplay reports of losing a chunk of its $10 billion valuation
Dropbox CEO Drew Houston isn't a fan of the way privately held startups are valued by mutual funds. And he thinks Warriors star point guard Steph Curry is the best way to explain the problem.
Startup valuations have been in the spotlight in recent months, as big funds like Fidelity, have marked down the value of holdings in private tech companies including Snapchat, Cloudera and Evernote.
In the case of Dropbox, one markdown trimmed its $10 billion valuation -
Abe's victory doesn't bode well for Japan's long-term economic health
Japan’s Liberal Democrats, the ruling party led by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, won a landslide victory in Sunday’s upper house elections. But Marcel Thieliant, a researcher at Capital Economics, says the election result is “no reason to cheer,” and that Abe’s victory will be a detriment to the economy. This is mainly because Abe’s crushing victory will allow him to keep avoiding necessary structural reform in favor of continued fiscal stimulus, according to -
