At UBS' CIO Global Forum last week, attendees were polled about what kept them up at night.
Donald Trump was up there with kids, terrorism and work.
And so, at least judging from the pros in that room, investors are starting to worry about the downside of a win by the Republican presidential frontrunner.
But they are overpricing that risk, and the real thing they should be focused on has less to do with who becomes president, according to Mark Haefele, chief investment office

CIO: This is the US election outcome that investors are ignoring, and it could be a shocker
-
The market is in a 'frenzy of an equity bubble'
Stocks are looking expensive, even the Federal Reserve thinks so. A number of measures, from price-to-earnings to "Q ratios" all point to a frothy market.
According to Michael Lebowitz at 720 Global, this idea holds especially true when you examine the valuation of companies' stocks to how much they're actually selling, also called the price-to-sales ratio (P/S ratio).
"At its current record level, the P/S ratio leads us to one of two conclusions: 1) Investors are extrem -
Bill Gates once invited Warren Buffett to a sleepover and discovered him eating Oreos for breakfast
Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates and famed investor Warren Buffett are celebrating 25 years of friendship today — an anniversary Gates marked by posting his favorite memories of Buffett on his blog.
The best revelation here is that Buffett "has basically stuck to eating what he liked when he was six years old," Gates writes, meaning "he mostly eats hamburgers, ice cream, and Coke."In fact, Buffett apparently insisted on Oreo cookies for breakfast during one early ove -
Even Apple might feel the effects of Brexit (AAPL)
Citi issued a note on Tuesday in which it said it is cutting its projections for Apple's sales and margins when it reports earnings later this quarter.
Investors apparently didn't like that. Apple shares were down 1.13% to $94.81 during trading on Tuesday.
Turns out, it's not necessarily Apple's fault. Blame Brexit.
In the note, Citigroup Global Markets analyst Jim Suva wrote that macroeconomic uncertainty following the British vote earlier this month was one major reason w -
How Wall Street made an absolute killing from Twinkies
Hostess Brands, the maker of Twinkies, is going public in a deal that is great news for private equity.
Apollo Global Management and the family-owned private equity firm C. Dean Metropoulos & Company — which together bought Hostess out of bankruptcy in 2013 — have sold the company to Gores Holdings, a special-purpose acquisition company, for some $675 million.
In the process, they've made a ton of money.
Much of it comes from a $905 million dividend recapitalization last year, in -
Google's parent company is issuing internal tracking stock to employees working on its long-term bets (GOOG, GOOGL)
Alphabet has a new way to keep the pressure on employees that work in its non-Google 'Other Bets' divisions.
Those subsidiaries, which lost about ~$800 million last quarter, are creating new types of stock that will fluctuate depending on their own divisions' performance, versus Alphabet's overall, Bloomberg's Alistair Barr reports.
Employees often get a solid chunk of their total pay from stock, so "Other Bets" employees will have more of a financial stake in their own -
China has caught onto the 'athleisure' trend, and US companies are profiting
China’s luxury market is in transition.
In 2015, Chinese shoppers accounted for almost half of the global luxury market. But recently, luxury goods have become less accessible to the growing Chinese middle class, due in part to last year's anti-extravagance campaign led by president Xi Jinping.
Meanwhile, the tastes of the elite have shifted away from visibly branded goods in favor of quality, newness, and lifestyle. So what are Chinese consumers spending their money on -
Twitter has six months to clean up its act before it’s too late (TWTR)
The internet really, really wants Twitter to be acquired.
The company's share price rose more after the Microsoft/LinkedIn deal than it has in the year since Jack Dorsey took over the company, indicating that investors are more excited about a potential acquisition than they are the new CEO.
But all is not lost for the social platform.

Twitter has 6 months to clean up its act before it's too late (TWTR)
The internet really, really wants Twitter to be acquired.
The company's share price has fallen by about 60% in the year since Jack Dorsey took over the company but is up 19% since Microsoft last month announced plans to buy LinkedIn. That suggests that Twitter investors are more excited about a potential acquisition than they are about the company’s new CEO.
But all is not lost for the social platform.

3 'risk-off' trades are going crazy right now
Stock are under pressure, and the British pound just touched to a new three-decade low of 1.3003 against the dollar.
This follows several glum pieces of news coming out of Europe.
The UK's Standard Life Investments stopped retail investors from pulling out of one of the biggest property funds in the country, slamming property and financial stocks, as JonesTrading's Dave Lutz noted in his trader chat on Tuesday.
Moreover, several reports over the long weekend highlighted the risks -
These are the 30 office jobs with the biggest gender pay gaps
53 years after the Equal Pay Act was passed, the gender wage gap continues to be a contentious issue in the work force.
According to the White House, the median woman working full time earned 78 cents for every dollar earned by the median man in 2013.
Debates tend to focus on the complex set of reasons for the gap, but it's interesting to note which occupations feature the largest wage disparities.

Netflix's stock is popping on news that you'll be able to stream using Comcast's fancy new cable boxes (NFLX)
Comcast thinks its new "X1" voice-controlled cable box will be the future of TV, and now that future will include Netflix.
Recode's Kara Swisher on Tuesday broke the news that Comcast would allow Netflix on its new platform, and the pair of companies gave the following statement:
"Comcast and Netflix have reached an agreement to incorporate Netflix into X1, providing seamless access to the great content offered by both companies. We have much work to do before the service will be available to co -
The government needs to spend a lot of money on something even less sexy than highways
The push for fiscal stimulus is beginning to gain steam. Top finance names, both presidential candidates, and financial institutions' strategists are all on board for more government spending.
Now the question becomes what to spend the windfall on.
Neil Dutta at Renaissance Macro had a suggestion for lawmakers: Instead of spending the stimulus on something big and flashy, spend it on something necessary.
Typically, the idea of stimulus brings to mind large highway projects and new bridges &mdash -
The pound is crashing
Good afternoon!
The British pound fell by 2.1% to a low of 1.3003 against the dollar at 12:08 p.m. ET.
That's the lowest level since September 1985.
This follows earlier news that the Bank of England's Financial Stability report called Brexit "the most significant near-term domestic risks to financial stability".
The BOE's Financial Policy Committee also cut its countercyclical capital buffer for UK banks to zero from 0.50%.
And, separately, the UK's June PMI, which was colle -
Elon Musk calls Fortune's report on Tesla's latest stock sale 'BS' in Twitter tirade (TSLA)
Elon Musk is going off on Fortune.
In two tweets fired out Tuesday morning, Musk called a report from Fortune's Carol Loomis published Tuesday "BS."
Loomis' report questioned whether Tesla withheld material information from shareholders after the company learned a driver using autopilot in the company's Model S sedan had died in an accident on May 7.
Loomis notes that the company sold over $2 billion of stock on May 18 — a sale that was executed before investors had learned about the autop -
Mark Ritson: Gap’s CEO is suffering from digital delirium
It’s hard to imagine there has ever been a worse time at Gap Inc in the company’s 46-year history. The gigantic American retailer which operates more than 3,700 stores around the World under brands such as Gap, Banana Republic and Old Navy recently announced its 14th consecutive month of declining sales. Its share price is officially in the toilet too and is now worth half what it was trading for a year ago.
It’s not hard to see where the problems lie. In fact, we can use Gap -

CITI: This commodity is a better safe-haven option than gold
One of the more popular debates among economists revolves around this question: What's the point of gold?
Some think it doesn't serve any purpose, and therefore has no intrinsic value.
Others claim that hoarding gold is a legitimate way to safely store wealth in preparation for economic troubles.
Investors in aggregate tend to lean toward the latter sentiment. In times of market turmoil, they generally dive headfirst into the shiny metal.
For example, most recently, gold prices shot up about 5.2 -

The collapse of the monetary system as we know it will push gold to $4,200
Here's a bold call.
After the post-Brexit, face-ripping comeback in gold prices, Christopher Wood at CLSA believes that the precious metal is set up to more than triple in price.
Since the start of 2016, gold bullion has gained 24.6%, said Wood, who has been high on gold for some time now, and the risks to the global economy and safe-haven nature of the commodity will make it the go-to investment.
"A long-term bullish view is maintained on gold bullion, with the ultimate price target now set at -

Factory orders fall more than expected in May
Factory orders fell 1% in May, the Commerce Department said on Tuesday.
Economists had forecast that new orders for manufactured goods in May fell 0.8% after a downward-revised 1.8% gain in the prior month, according to Bloomberg.
Durable goods orders for the month were also revised lower. Orders for items purchased for long-term use, like dishwashers and stairway railings, fell 2.3%.
An advance reading on durable goods orders showed that they fell 2.2%.

Overnight, markets have become obsessed with Europe's next big problem: Italian banks
Forget Brexit; markets are all about Italian banks right now.
After a long weekend in the US and headlines from the Bank of England warning about financial instability in the UK, markets are seemingly obsessed with problems in the Italian banking system.
A note from JPMorgan, which comes to us from Zero Hedge, shows the rush of negative headlines related to the Italian banking system coming across the tape Tuesday morning.JPM pic.twitter.com/tlSpFZwLaM— zerohedge(@zerohedge) July 5, 2016

JPMORGAN: It's time for the government to start spending
We have seen some pretty incredible attempts at economic stimulus in the post-financial-crisis world, including negative interest rates and monumental bond-buying programs from central banks.
Despite this, the world continues to be stuck in a slow-growth rut, and policymakers are still searching for a way out.
It may be time, then, to return to a tried-and-true method that has fallen out of favor during this recovery, according to Jan Loeys at JPMorgan: Governments should start spending more.

Lad Bible’s Mimi Turner: Tech and globalisation are creating winners and losers – and dividing society
How do we heal the rift in the national psyche laid bare by Brexit?
Marketers looking at the UK post-23 June will observe a tense standoff between segments of our society: young versus old; Remainer versus Brexiteer; rich versus poor; metropolitan elite versus narrow-minded little-Englander. These character types seem to be at odds with a society that prizes tolerance and inclusivity. The spate of racist abuse feels like a country we don’t recognise as ours.
Compounding the agony, our poli -
Nescafé credits its switch to Tumblr with a rise in sales and engagement
The coffee brand now has 45 Tumblr sites live globally, with a further 20 planned by year’s out, as it aims to create a more direct connection with its younger consumers.
Over the last six months, Nescafé says the Tumblr websites have generated an additional $200,000 in sales – thanks largely to ‘buy now buttons’ – but it insists this figure is “only a small sign of things to come”. Currently only ten of the sites offer the option to buy online, b -
The Japanese yen is stronger
Good morning!
The Japanese yen is stronger by 0.8% at 101.76 per dollar as of 7:39 a.m. ET.
So far this year, the yen has appreciated by about 18% against the dollar.
A stronger Japanese currency creates problems for the Japanese government and central bank, both of which have been struggling to jump-start the economy via the ambitious Abenomics plan. Plus, it has folks worried about corporate profits.
As for the rest of the world, here's the scoreboard:

Russell Parsons: The way to heal Britain’s rift is to listen harder
There has been a lot of commentary since the EU referendum about Britain, the divided nation, with the metropolitan elite on one side and the provincial and rural disenfranchised on the other, much of it lacking any insight. Our magazine cover star this week is definitely armed with insight. Ed Smith is a former director of sales and marketing at Australian media giant Foxtel. Having relocated to Britain he set himself the task of getting to know his adopted homeland.
