  • Suspect Steals CHP Patrol Car, Drives To Sac State And Tries To Steal Bus Before Being Arrested

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Authorities say a suspect stole a marked California Highway Patrol car and then a bus near Sacramento State before being arrested early Friday afternoon.
    The incident started as a traffic stop on Highway 50 near Bradshaw Road. CHP says, at some point during the stop, a suspect took off in a marked patrol vehicle.

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Officers are asking people to stay out of the area of the J Street entrance of Sacramento State due to police activity.
    Exactly what happened has not been detailed, but Sacramento State Police are at the scene along with other agencies.

    VACAVILLE (CBS13) – California Highway Patrol Officer Kirk Griess is being laid to rest on Friday, one week after he and another man were struck and killed on Interstate 80 in Fairfield.

  • Freeze Drying Process Helps Save Rare Books Damaged In Leak At California State Library

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The hundreds of rare books damaged during a water leak at the California State Library are now back in the collection after being freeze-dried.
    About 250 books were damaged over the winter when the ceiling started leaking. Apparently, the storm caused water to pool on a balcony in the library’s third-floor ceiling. The water then started to drip onto some rare books in the library’s collection.

  • Woman Killed In Early Morning Hit-And-Run In Stockton; Search On For Van

    STOCKTON (CBS13) – The search is on for the driver who hit and killed a woman in Stockton early Friday morning.
    Stockton police say the incident happened just after 1 a.m. on the Eighth Street offramp from northbound Interstate 5. A woman was putting gas into her car when she was struck.
    The driver kept on going; the woman suffered fatal injuries.

    SACRAMENTO – Blackface has reared its ugly head, again. This time local high school students are said to be responsible for a video that has surfaced on social media.

    ISLETON (CBS13) – The Rio Vista Bridge was shut down on Thursday night as Caltrans finds a short-term fix.

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A new state bill would give kids two options with their meals at restaurants—water or milk.
    Senate Bill 1192 would make water or milk the default drink for kids meals in a push to reduce obesity and access to sugary drinks for children.
