    COLFAX (CBS13) – Placer County sheriff deputies are crediting an alert real estate agent for stopping a crime.
    Deputies say, on Saturday, the agent saw two people in the process of burglarizing a home in the 2300 block of Barnes Lane in Colfax.

  • Women Who Were Pregnant During Wine Country Wildfires Sought For UC Davis Study

    SONOMA COUNTY (CBS13) – UC Davis researchers are calling for women who were pregnant during or after the deadly Wine Country wildfires to participate in a study.
    Researchers want to look at how the smoke and ash effects prenatal and postnatal health.
    Officials will collect and test blood, hair, and breast milk from women, as well as and placentas, umbilical cord, saliva, and blood samples from their babies.

  • Natomas Bicyclist Hit By Driver Suspected Of Being High On Marijuana

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A bicyclist was left in critical condition after being struck by a car in Sacramento on Saturday.
    The scene was near the Natomas Library along Truxel Road.
    Investigators say the crash happened around noon. Officers believe the driver who struck the bicyclist was high on marijuana when the crash happened.
    The driver was arrested and is now facing DUI charges.
    Police have not released the identity of the suspect at this point.

  • Pregnant Mother, 5-Year-Old Hurt In South Sacramento Shooting

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Two people are in serious condition after a late night shooting in Sacramento, authorities say.
    Police tell us the shooting happened on 73rd Street near 17th Avenue on Sunday.
    The victims then drove themselves to Lacam Circle, nearly a mile away. Sacramento police later confirmed that the two people hurt were a pregnant mother and her five-year-old son.

  • Police Shoot Man Who Stabbed Woman At LA Rescue Mission

    LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles police have shot and killed a man who stabbed a woman and took another hostage at a Van Nuys church rescue mission for the homeless.
    KABC-TV says people had gathered for a meal on Saturday afternoon when the 30-year-old man stabbed a woman. A witness told the station that when police arrived, the man grabbed a second woman and held a nearly foot-long serrated blade to her neck.

  • Arson Suspected At Bar Where Zach Randolph’s Brother Was Killed

    MARION, Ind. (AP) — Investigators have determined a fire likely was intentionally set at an Indiana bar, one day after the brother of NBA star Zach Randolph was fatally shot there.
    The fire happened at Hop’s Blues Room in Marion early Sunday — less than 24 hours after 35-year-old Roger Randolph was found dead.
    Firefighters extinguished the blaze that caused an estimated $20,000 in damage. Marion Fire Department Investigator Brandon Eckstein says the cause of the fire was arson.
