    Investigators say the crime ring cultivated did a lot of its work in plain sight in neighborhoods such as Congress Park. It relied on a network of home growers communicating by cellphones in code to sell it across state lines.

    CZECH REPUBLIC (CBS4) – Zoo officials at the Jihlava Zoo in the Czech Republic say a group of boys beat a beloved pink flamingo to death after sneaking into the enclosure.
    The 16-year-old bird was allegedly stoned and beaten to death by three boys, ages 6, 8 and 10, after the boys scaled a fence to get into the exhibit.

    ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — New overall champion Mikaela Shiffrin remained in the chase of a slalom race after the first run at World Cup Finals, trailing Petra Vlhova of Slovakia by a slim margin.
    Vlhova set the pace by finishing in 45.52 seconds on a sun-drenched course Saturday. Frida Hansdotter of Sweden is second, 0.03 seconds back, and Shiffrin in third. She trails by 0.07 seconds.

    DENVER (CBS4)– JCPenney will close four stores in Colorado as part of its closing more than 100 stores nationwide.The struggling retailer announced last month that it will close 138 stores across the U.S.
