    Man Killed After Getting Struck By Lightning
    LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) – An Arvada man was killed after getting struck by lightning in the Red Feather Lakes area Friday afternoon.
    According to Diane Fairman with the Larimer County Coroner’s Office, Chad Trover, 45, was struck by lightning while standing outside a cabin between trees.
    Trover was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

    Memorial To Recognize Medical Helicopter Crews Who Died
    LITTLETON, Colo. (AP) – Air medical helicopters are flying over and landing at the future site of a permanent memorial to those who died trying to help patients.
    The memorial planned near Denver will honor air medical crews who lost their lives, recognizing the sacrifice of more than 400 crew members who have died since 1972.
    Those being remembered include Colorado Flight for Life pilot Patrick Mahany, who died when a Flight for Life helicopter crashed in Frisco last year.

    DENVER (The Sports Xchange) – The Colorado Rockies struck for two runs in the 11th inning against Chicago Cubs closer Aroldis Chapman and came away with an improbable 7-6 victory Friday night on an errant throw.

    Woman Arrested, Accused Of Swindling Ailing 79-Year-Old
    LAFAYETTE, Colo. (CBS4) – A woman accused of exploiting a family and taking money from a 79-year-old with ailing health has been arrested.
    In June, the Adult Protective Services referred a case to Lafayette police for complaints against Julie Steenhoek, 53, known to the victim as “Doctor Julie.”
    Steenhoek was arrested on Monday in Jefferson County. She posted bond and is due back in court for an advisement on Aug. 29.

    DENVER (CBS4)– With 40,000 homes destroyed and more than 10,000 people forced to stay in shelters, the American Red Cross is calling on volunteers from around the country to aid relief efforts in Louisiana, including those in Colorado.
    Seventeen volunteers and one staff member from the Colorado-Wyoming region are either already on the ground or set to arrive in the state on Saturday. At least one nurse from Colorado has deployed to Louisiana with the Red Cross.

    Prosecutors say 32-year-old Furmen Leyba was sentenced Friday for the Dec. 10 shooting that killed 18-year-old Johnny Gutierrez, 37-year-old Jason Quijada and 17-year-old Jayson Figueroa.     DENVER (CBS4)– A man was seriously injured when he was struck by a light rail train in downtown Denver on Friday evening.
    The man was struck by a train on the D Line on California between 15th and 16th just after 6 p.m. Friday.

    DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Rockies reinstated reliever Chad Qualls from the 15-day disabled list on Friday and cleared a roster spot for him by optioning struggling rookie reliever Carlos Estevez to their Triple-A affiliate in Albuquerque.
    Qualls, 38, went on the disabled list July 23, retroactive to July 16, because of colitis. He is 2-0 with a 5.61 ERA in 36 appearances for the Rockies this season.

    DENVER (CBS4)– Strong winds from Friday’s storms blew a tree into an SUV in Denver’s Montbello neighborhood.

    Ryder Johnson was last seen on Jan. 17 leaving his job at Eldora Ski Area. That night a deputy found Johnson’s car parked near Gross Reservoir on Flagstaff Road behind the Flatirons.

    Crop Duster Plane Crashes Near Alamosa
    ALAMOSA, Colo. (AP) — A crop duster small plane has crashed near Alamosa.
    There was no word on the condition of the pilot.
    Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allen Kenitzer says the accident occurred about 11 a.m. Friday in Alamosa County.
    The Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office said no more information was available.
    The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
