  • March for Our Lives rally, march to be held in Buffalo Saturday

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A March for Our Lives rally will be held in Buffalo this Saturday, in solidarity with the ant-gun violence demonstrations occurring in Washington, D.C. and across the nation this weekend.
    Mayor Byron Brown, the WNY Peace Center, and New Yorkers Against Gun Violence are sponsoring the event, which will start at 1 p.m. Saturday in Niagara Square in front of Buffalo City Hall.

    OLEAN, N.Y. (WIVB) – A big new clue investigators received last month has led to more in a missing person case that is 34 years old.
    In 1984, Josephine Despard, then 26, disappeared after leaving her family’s home in the City of Olean.
    In February, a letter, addressed to Captain Robert Blovksy and other investigators, was delivered to the police station. It included details about the Despard case, but Blovsky wouldn’t reveal what was written in the letter.

  • New details about 42 former Buffalo priests accused of child sex abuse

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- 42 former Buffalo priests were accused of child sex abuse prior to leaving the church since 1950.
    According to a spokesperson for the Buffalo Diocese, the priests were either removed from ministry, retired, or left after allegations they sexually abused children.
    Tuesday, the Buffalo Diocese released a list of their names.
    According to Bishop Richard Malone, it was needed to begin healing for the survivors and to bring the alleged crimes into the public light.

  • US to sell $1 billion in arms to Saudi Arabia

    (AP) – The Trump administration is signing off on selling more than $1 billion in arms to Saudi Arabia as Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman visits the United States.
    The State Department says the administration told Congress on Thursday that it plans to approve the sale. Lawmakers will have 30 days to act if they want to try to stop it.
    The package includes up to about 6,700 U.S.-built anti-tank missiles. Raytheon Co. makes the missiles.

  • Buffalo Police: Woman robbed by two suspects on East Ferry

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Buffalo Police are investigating a robbery that happened Wednesday evening in the 300 block of East Ferry Street.
    A woman told police that while she was sitting in her vehicle around 8:10 p.m., two suspects in black hoodies came up to her car, one on a bike and the other in another car.
    The suspect on the bike displayed a gun and demanded she give them everything.
    The suspect fled with the woman’s purse.

  • Man who tried to rob Lockport hospital sentenced for violating probation

    LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) — The man who tried to rob Eastern Niagara Hospital in Lockport was sentenced for violating his probation.
    Adam Kibler received a five-year probation sentence in October after serving nine months in jail.
    In May of 2016, he brought what appeared to be rifles and a bomb to the hospital’s emergency room and demanded opiates. The weapons turned out to be fake.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — One day two years ago Jacque Mroz noticed some commotion down her street, so she walked over and started asking questions. Soon, she realized it was simply a delivery volunteer for Meals on Wheels for WNY.

    CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Cheektowaga police say they captured a bank robber on Wednesday afternoon.
    Jorge Asencio, 40, was accused of stealing money from the M&T Bank at 3700 Union Rd. Authorities say the robbery happened shortly before 3:30 p.m.

    CHICAGO (AP) — Orbitz says one of its older websites may have been hacked, potentially exposing the personal information of people who made purchases online between Jan. 1, 2016 and Dec. 22, 2017.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Erie County Sheriff’s Office says a vehicle crashed into a residence in Grand Island Wednesday night.
    Deputies responded to the Fieldstone Dr. scene around 8:30 p.m.
    Karen Potocin, 60, was given field sobriety tests, which authorities say she failed.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The owner of Liberty Cab Company says one of his drivers was robbed at gunpoint late Friday night.
    Bill Yuhnke, the company owner, said the robber got away with the cab driver’s wallet and cash.
    Buffalo Police are investigating. No arrests have been made.
    Yuhnke says Liberty Cab installed cameras in every taxi cab about three months ago for insurance purposes.
