    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Buffalo Police are investigating a shooting that happened Friday night in the 200 block of Bird Avenue.
    The victim, an 18-year-old man, was taken to the hospital for treatment and is listed in good condition.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A pastor from a Catholic parish in Dunkirk has been put on administrative leave by Bishop Richard Malone following an abuse complaint.
    Father Dennis G. Riter of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish has been put on leave as the investigation continues, the Buffalo Diocese confirmed Monday afternoon.

    (AP) – Stocks are surging as the market recovers more of its huge losses from a week earlier.
    Technology stocks and banks, which took some of the worst losses last week, powered higher Monday. Microsoft jumped 7 percent and Bank of America climbed 4.4 percent.

    NEW YORK (AP) – A New York City Council proposal would protect private-sector employees who don’t want to get work emails and phone calls after hours.
    The Wall Street Journal says Councilman Rafael Espinal introduced the bill Thursday. A fellow Democrat, Diane Savino, is working on a similar proposal for the state legislature.

  • State police remembering trooper who was killed in 2011

    TOWN OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) — New York State police are remembering one of their own on Monday.
    Trooper Kevin Dobson was killed at age 43 when he was hit by a vehicle on I-290 in the Town of Tonawanda. The incident occurred on March 26, 2011 while Dobson was conducting a traffic stop.
    Dobson had been with the State police since 1997.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Buffalo Sabres have signed top prospect Casey Mittelstadt to a theee year entry-level contract, the team announced on Monday.
    Mittelstadt, who was the 8th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, will join the Sabres later this week according to TSN’s Bob McKenzie.

  • Buffalo man sentenced for fatal stabbing in Lackawanna

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Following his sentencing on Monday morning, 22-year-old Christian Gillie may spend the rest of his life behind bars.
    Back in August of 2016, Gillie broke into a Lackawanna residence and fatally stabbed 23-year-old Robert Wheeler, who lived there. Lackawanna police arrested him near the scene.
    This past January, Gillie was found guilty of murder, manslaughter and two counts of burglary.

    (WIVB) — Apple wants emojis that better represent people with disabilities.
    They sent a request to the organization that sets the standard for emojis, asking for 13 new additions.
    They include an ear with a hearing aid, a person in a wheelchair, a prosthetic arm, a service dog and a person with a cane.
    Apple said it chose options that are most inclusive to people in four main categories: blind and low vision, deaf and hard of hearing, physical motor disabilities and hidden disabilities.
  • Driver seriously injured in Wheatfield accident

    TOWN OF WHEATFIELD, N.Y. (WIVB) — An accident involving a truck closed part of Shawnee Rd. in the Town of Wheatfield.
    The road was shut down in both directions between Slusaric Rd. and Wildwing Dr.
    The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office says a pickup truck backed out of a driveway on the east side of the road when it was struck by a southbound vehicle.
    The pickup truck driver suffered serious injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle.

    TOWN OF BOSTON, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Erie County Sheriff’s Office is looking for help identifying the suspect in an attempted break-in.
    They say it happened on February 20 in the Town of Boston. According to officials, the suspect, who was armed with a shovel, was seen on security cameras at Bella Pizza on Herman Hill Rd.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- Western New Yorkers continue to send medical supplies to Ukraine as the conflict continues with Russia.
    Members of the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Cheektowaga sold pierogis on Sunday.
    They hoped to raise $7,000 to pay shipping costs for those supplies. They’ve already sent $20 million worth of high grade surgical supplies to Ukraine to help injured soldiers on the battle field.
