  • Buffalo Diocese announces fund for sex abuse victims

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Buffalo Diocese has established a voluntary program for those who have made claims that they were sexually abused as a child by a member of the Buffalo Diocese clergy.
    Those who have previously made claims will be contacted and invited to participate in the Independent Reconciliation and Compensation Program (IRCP), which will offer monetary settlements.

  • Feds: Massachusetts man sent white powder to Trump son

    BOSTON (AP) — A Massachusetts man has been charged with sending a letter with a white powder to Donald Trump Jr. that landed his wife, Vanessa, in the hospital.
    Daniel Frisiello, of Beverly, was arrested Thursday. He is expected to appear in federal court in Worcester later Thursday. It could not immediately be determined if he has a lawyer.
    Federal authorities say he also sent letters containing power to four other people, including the office of Sen. Debbie Stabenow, of Michigan.

  • City issues more than 12,000 speeding tickets in 33 days

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island city has issued more than 12,000 speeding tickets in the first 33 days of a new school-zone speed camera program.
    WPRI-TV reports 12,193 tickets were issued in Providence between Jan. 16 and Feb. 22 from five speed cameras.
    The tickets cost $95 each, for a total charge for violators of $1.15 million. Records show the city has received $370,000 as of Feb. 22.

  • Jim Kelly announces cancer has returned

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Former Buffalo Bills quarterback revealed Thursday in a statement that his oral cancer has returned
    “As our family has faced many trials and triumphs throughout the years, you have blessed us with your prayers. We are asking for those prayers once again,” Kelly said. 
    Kelly underwent surgery for cancer in his upper jaw bone in 2013. In March 2014, he was re-diagnosed with aggressive, spreading cancer. He declared he was cancer-free in Nov. 2014.

    NEWFANE, N.Y. (WIVB) — The town of Newfane is putting a tight leash on bad dog owners. The town board adopted a new dog ordinance Wednesday, which includes possible jail time for repeat offenders.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- A Buffalo man says he feared for his life Tuesday night when an encounter with two state parole officers went south.
    Randy White is now recovering at home with a bullet wound in his thigh.

    NEW YORK (AP) — Walmart says it will no longer sell firearms and ammunition to people younger than 21.
    The retailer’s new policy comes after Dick’s Sporting Goods announced earlier Wednesday that it would restrict the sale of firearms to those under 21 years old. It didn’t mention ammunition. Walmart says the decision came after a review of its firearm sales policy in light of the mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida.

    CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — A Tennessee school bus driver who’s charged in a wreck that killed six children has testified that he wasn’t on his cellphone when the wreck happened.
