    UPDATE 2:50 p.m. — CBS13 has learned this began as a chase involving the Sacramento Police Department.
    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — CHP says all traffic is being diverted off of eastbound Highway 50 at Watt and westbound on Highway 50 at Bradshaw for a traffic stop.
    It is unknown when the highway will reopen.
    This is a breaking news story. We will update it when we get new information.

  • Butte County K9 Takes Down Robbery Suspect When Taser Does Not

    OROVILLE (CBS13) — The Butte County Sheriff’s Office says 50-year-old Thomas Remy is behind bars for robbing an Oroville 7-11 and assaulting its clerk.
    But they say Remy didn’t go quietly.
    After cornering Remy and ordering him to the ground, he reportedly advanced at a deputy while wielding a beer bottle.
    A deputy then tasered Remy, but it reportedly did not affect him.
    Deputies say Remy then ran down a hill and jumped over a barbed wire fence.

  • Elk Grove Boulevard Re-Opened

    UPDATE 5/12/19 2:16 p.m. — Police report the road reopened early Sunday morning. There is still no word what caused the malfunction.
    UPDATE 8:33 p.m. — Elk Grove Police say the busy road is still closed, five hours later.
    ELK GROVE (CBS13) — Police say part of Elk Grove Boulevard is currently closed because of a malfunctioning railroad crossing arm.
    The closure stretches from Elk Grove Florin to School Street.

    OAKLAND (AP) — Police have arrested a California man they say falsely claimed that his three-year-old daughter was abducted in a carjacking, triggering an Amber Alert.
    KTVU-TV reports Oakland police say the man’s Mercedes was stolen Saturday — but the child was not inside.
    Investigators say the father lied about the girl’s disappearance because he thought authorities would help him recover his car faster.

  • Neighbors React To Woman Arrested For Torturing Children

    PLACERVILLE (CBS13) — Patricia Taylor has been adopting and fostering children for years, now the 63-year-old is accused of torturing those children. Things were so bad, deputies say one of the girls ran away to her older sisters house.
    “Those poor kids had to have just been living in fear,” one neighbor, Susan Collins, said.

  • Vehicle Hits Fire Hydrant In Roseville; Eight Businesses Damaged

    ROSEVILLE (CBS13) — A vehicle hit a fire hydrant Saturday evening in Roseville, shearing off the valve used to close it, and sending water shooting into the sky.
    It happened in the parking lot of 1221 Pleasant Grove.

  • Homicide Suspect Behind Bars After CHP Finds “Crime Scene” In His Vehicle

    OAKDALE (CBS13) — The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office says a woman found on the side of the road just outside of Oakdale early Saturday morning was killed.
    A couple of hours later, CHP says a man crashed his car on Highway 99 in Turlock.

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Sacramento Police have made two arrests in a two-month-old arson in South Sacramento.
    The incident happened on March 19 on the2700 block of Meadowview Road.
    Police say Chantel and Rashawnda Williams started a fire in an apartment where a woman and four-year-old boy were sleeping.

  • Watch: Helicopter Rescues Sonoma Hiker

    SONOMA (CBS13) — A rescue crew from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office airlifted an injured hiker to safety Saturday morning.Helicopter “Henry-1” was dispatched to Sonoma Mountain Regional Park for a hiker who suffered a knee injury and couldn’t walk any further.
    The crew located the woman and landed nearby.

    FORESTHILL (CBS13) — Crews are closing in on full containment on the Sugar Pine Fire.
