• Sacramento City Finalizes Schedule, Keeps First Day Of School As Is

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Two months after a proposal to move the first day of school up by two weeks, Sacramento City Unified School District has decided to keep their schedule as is.
    The first day of school will be August 29, 2019, and the last day will be June 11, 2020.
    Right now the district is dealing with a $35 million gap and has been in negotiations with their labor unions.

  • Suspects Sought In Colfax Shell Station Smash And Grab

    COLFAX (CBS13) – Detectives are asking for help in finding the suspects who broke into a Colfax gas station and made off with cash and cigarettes.
    The incident happened early Thursday morning at the Shell gas station in Colfax. According to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, two men were caught on camera pulling up to the gas pumps, then smashing the store’s front glass door with a brick.

  • Attempted Murder Suspect Who Walked Away From Hospital Re-Arrested In Modesto

    MODESTO (CBS13) – The man accused of driving into two separate crowds of people at a Modesto park, who then escaped from police custody at a hospital, has been re-arrested.
    Modesto police said 29-year-old Israel Bazan of Modesto “walked away” from a hospital in Fresno before undergoing surgery for a head injury.
    Bazan is suspected of hitting four people on Jan. 29 in the parking lot and on the road on just outside of Beard Brook Park.

    SOUTH LAKE TAHOE (AP) – The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Lake Tahoe where as much as 3 feet (91 centimeters) of snow is possible along Sierra ridgetops by Wednesday.

    RIVERBANK (CBS13) – Authorities say a 21-year-old man from Stockton was killed in a fiery crash near Riverbank on Friday.
    The incident happened a little before 2:30 a.m. near Claribel Road and Terminal Avenue, just south of Riverbank. California Highway Patrol says emergency crews got to the scene and found a 2013 Chevy sedan fully engulfed in flames.

    CARMICHAEL (CBS13) – The second 72-year-old woman who was struck by a 16-year-old driver in Carmichael has died, authorities say.
    The incident happened Friday morning on a residential stretch of Arden Way, near McClaren Drive.

    NORTH HIGHLANDS (CBS13) – Deputies are investigating a late Sunday night shooting that left a man injured at a Sacramento County intersection.
    The incident happened just before midnight near Auburn Boulevard and College Oak Drive, north of American River College.
    According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, a caller reported that they had heard several gunshots and saw someone lying on the ground. Deputies responded and found that the man had been shot several times.

    TRACY (CBS13) – Residents are being advised to “bee careful” after a messy crash in Tracy Monday morning.
    Tracy police say about 15 boxes of beehives spilled onto the street near Corral Hollow and Byron roads.

    MODESTO (CBS13) – Family is identifying the 41-year-old father who was struck and killed while crossing a Modesto road in his wheelchair.
    The incident happened Friday night at the intersection of Tully Road and Montclair Drive.

    BENICIA (CBS13) — Air quality is returning to normal tonight in Benicia after an emissions problem at the Valero refinery.
    A green smokestack put out a dark thick smoke that contained carbon particles.

  • Traffic Stop Leads To Gun Arrests In Midtown Sacramento

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Two people are behind bars on firearms-related charges after a traffic stop in Midtown Sacramento tonight.
    Police say they attempted to stop a car with multiple people in it near 24th and N Streets. That’s when two of the people inside the car took off running.

    Police found one gun during the stop and arrested two of the people in the car.

    EL DORADO COUNTY (CBS13) — CHP says a truck flipped today on Highway 50 between Kyburz and Pollock Pines.
    Two men inside the truck survived and were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

    MODESTO (CBS13) — A 41-year-old father was killed Friday night in Modesto.
    Police say Salvador Chavez was crossing the intersection at Tully Road and Montclair Drive in his electric wheelchair when he was struck by a vehicle.

    Chavez was declared dead at a nearby hospital.
    Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident.

    NORWAY (CBS13) — After a terrifying scene onboard a cruise ship stranded in stormy seas, one of those passengers, a Rio Vista woman stuck inside a cruise ship has finally made it off safely.
    Alexus Sheppard tweeted several dramatic videos and pictures when the trouble started.
    This all started when the Viking Sky Cruiseline got caught in the middle of a storm off the coast of Norway.

  • One Person Injured In South Sacramento Sideshow

    SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A bystander was hit as police were breaking up a sideshow in South Sacramento on Saturday night.
    It happened at Alma Vista Way and Rocket Road.

    Police say an officer spotted several vehicles involved in the sideshow around 10 p.m., and waited for backup.
    Once other officers arrived, the cars dispersed.
    No arrests were made.
