    COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4) – Police are still searching for the suspected kidnapper in an Amber Alert last week.
    Mauricio Venzor-Gonzalez is suspected of taking his ex-girlfriend and their son from a home in Adams County at gunpoint.

    An Amber Alert went out Thursday, and a nationwide search followed.
    A security guard spotted the woman and the boy at a light rail station in Denver, and they were rescued.

  • Dog Saved As Family’s Home Destroyed In Fire

    PEYTON, Colo. (CBS4) – A family’s home was destroyed when a fire was sparked Saturday afternoon east of Colorado Springs.
    Firefighters from several agencies responded after people nearby saw smoke and called 911.
    No one was home at 5240 Whiting Way when it started just after 5 p.m.

  • 2 Injured When A Car And Motorcycle Collide

    FOUNTAIN, Colo. (CBS4) – Two people were injured when a car and motorcycle collided in El Paso County.
    Police say the crash happened just before 9 p.m. Saturday near Highway 85 and Carson Boulevard.
    An officer was nearby and saw it all happen.

    The northbound lanes of the highway were shut down for several hours for the investigation, but have since reopened.

  • Mt. Evans Road To Close For Season This Week

    IDAHO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) – The final stretch from Summit Lake to the top of Mount Evans will close for the season soon.
    Heavy snow kept the road closer later than usual earlier this season, with 40-foot-tall drifts.

    Crews didn’t get Mount Evans Road cleared until June 8, which is well after the usual opening for Memorial Day weekend.

    DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) – It’s been a year since Detective Dan Brite was shot and nearly killed in a shootout with a suicidal man.
    Doctors at the time gave him just a one percent chance of survival.

  • Man Dies After SUV Plunges Into Lake Dillon

    DILLON, Colo. (CBS4) – A man is dead after his SUV went underwater at Dillon Reservoir.
    The Summit County Sheriff’s Office tweeted out a photo of rescuers trying to reach the vehicle.

    DENVER (CBS4) – An SUV slammed into a laundromat Saturday morning.
    It happened at about 10:20 a.m. at the Tillies Coin Laundry on Evans Avenue and South Federal Boulevard.

  • Former Detective Facing Child Sex Assault Charges

    COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) – A former detective is facing sex assault charges involving a child.
    Investigators in Colorado Springs say Donald Fair worked with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in 2005 and 2006, and again from 2013 to this past July.
    Fair was an investigator with the Fourth Judicial District Attorney’s Office until Friday.
    He now faces charges of sex assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, and sexual exploitation of a child charges.

  • Thornton Triceratops Fossil Available For Viewing

    DENVER (CBS4) – Visitors to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science got their first chance to see the triceratops discovered in Thornton on Saturday.
    On Friday, paleontologists removed three casts from the dig site including the neck vertebrate, a rib, and other bones that have not been identified, and took them to the Museum’s paleo lab.

    DENVER (CBS4) – Frontier Airlines is getting fined again.
    This is the second time in less than two months the Denver-based carrier has had to pay up.
    The Department of Transportation says Frontier bumped passengers without giving them required information about compensation.
