    CBS Local — Students at a high school in Utah have a new reason to get to class on time each day: they’ll be keeping money in their pockets.

  • VA Watchdog Finds Some Problems At Colorado Benefits Office

    DENVER (AP) — A federal watchdog agency says a Denver-area office of the Veterans Affairs Department made mistakes on some benefit claims and processed others late, but no system-wide problems were found.
    The VA’s Office of Inspector General said Tuesday it reviewed 60 claims processed by a Veterans Affairs office in the Denver suburb of Lakewood.
    The agency says the Lakewood office correctly processed 28 of 30 claims for traumatic brain injury and 26 of 30 claims for two other types

    GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says an inmate has died after she was found unresponsive with a television power cord around her neck.
    Authorities said Tuesday that 54-year-old Suzanne Burgaz was found in a day room at the jail on Thursday. The sheriff’s department says Burgaz was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced brain-dead on Saturday and life support was removed.

    CBS Local — Hospitals are known for their strict rules on cleanliness and sterile environments. A new report is shining a troubling light on one source of contamination inside medical facilities: the nurses and their scrubs.

    SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) – A mussel that can cause severe environmental damage is causing issues for boaters in Colorado.

    NEW YORK (AP) — Beyonce, Blake Shelton, Barbra Streisand and Oprah Winfrey will headline a one-hour benefit telethon to benefit Hurricane Harvey victims that will be simulcast next week on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CMT.

    CLEVELAND (AP) — A northeast Ohio zoo says its baby giraffe has a name.
    Cleveland Metroparks Zoo says the African Masai giraffe born Aug. 6 will be called Zawadi, meaning “gift” in his native country.

    SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Hurricane Irma strengthened into a dangerous Category 5 storm Tuesday as it roared toward the northeast Caribbean on a path that could take it to the United States.

    DENVER (CBS4) – The Denver Police Department says it has no interest in acquiring grenade launchers or bayonets, but now, thanks to a newly signed executive order by the Trump administration, it has the option.
