  • Texas Nursing Home Residents Evacuated After Viral Photo

    DICKINSON, Texas (CBS4) – Residents of a flooded nursing home were rescued after a photo of their desperate situation went viral Sunday.
    The photo, showing senior citizens sitting among furniture in water up to their waists, is one of the more powerful images out of Texas following Hurricane Harvey’s landfall and unrelenting deluge.

  • Good Samaritan Pulls Driver From Pond

    COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) – A driver crashed into a pond Saturday but escaped serious injury thanks to a Good Samaritan who jumped in after her.
    The driver, identified only as a woman, missed a curve and crashed through two utility boxes, a six-foot fence, and a six inch-diameter spruce tree before her car plunged into a private pond in the Broadmoor neighborhood.
    A man who witnessed the crash entered the water, removed the woman from the car, and pulled her to shore.

    NEW YORK (AP) — The WNBA is going to let teams choose how they stand for the national anthem for the remainder of the season.
    The league confirmed to The Associated Press on Saturday that it has extended the suspension of the national anthem protocol put in place on Aug. 16. Over the past 10 days, players have been able to lock arms with each other during the anthem to show their support for the victims of racially charged violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, that occurred two weeks ago.

    DENVER (CBS4) – Men for the Cure began more than 10 years ago when a group of friends wanted to remember a friend’s wife who died of breast cancer. Diane O’Connor Thompson was that brave woman, and the inspiration for this very successful fundraiser. CBS4’s own Ed Greene was one of the founders of the event. In addition to helping in the battle against breast cancer, these four friends also wanted to ensure families had the resources needed when faced with the diagnosis.

    GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4) – A jury in Weld County convicted a man of first degree attempted murder and first degree assault after beating his pregnant girlfriend with a 10 pound weight.
    Manuel Rodriguez, 26, first punched and kicked the woman last October after he got mad at her for “ruining his night at the bar,” according to the district attorney’s office.

    ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) – A warrant has been issued for 43-year-old Sergio Hernandez after he walked out of the Adams County Courthouse Thursday afternoon prior to his conviction on sex assault charges.
    Without the defendant present in court, a jury returned guilty verdict on charges of Sexual Assault on a Child, Sexual Assault on a Child by one in a Position of Trust, and Aggravated Incest.

    PITTSBURGH (AP) — A Pennsylvania zoo says a baby elephant born prematurely in May is “up and moving around” after a feeding tube was inserted to help it gain much-needed weight.
    Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium spokeswoman Tracy Gray says the still-unnamed female elephant has been given a number of feedings and its tube and gastrointestinal tract are working normally.On Wednesday the zoo said the baby had taken a “turn for the worse” and was in critical condition.
