• Police Officer Kills Suspected Shoplifter

    COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Authorities in Colorado say a police officer shot and killed a person suspected of shoplifting at a Walmart.
    A spokeswoman for the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, Jacqueline Kirby, says Colorado Springs police were called to the store Monday night. She says the suspect was identified and shot after a chase.
    Kirby said it’s not clear yet whether the suspect was armed.
    The officer is currently on paid leave. No further details on the officer or sus

    NEW YORK CITY (CBS4)– Beth Mowins will become the first woman to call NFL play-by-play for CBS.
    Mowins will team with former NFL kicker Jay Feely for her debut on Sept. 24 when Cleveland plays at Indianapolis. The network released its announcer pairings Tuesday.

    SALEM, Ore. (AP) — A bill signed by Oregon Gov. Kate Brown on Tuesday makes personal-use possession of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and other drugs a misdemeanor, not a felony.
    Oregon joined just a handful of other U.S. states in defelonizing drugs under the new law, which was supported by law enforcement groups and takes effect immediately.

    ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)– Deputies have arrested the man they believe shot and killed another man at Cherry Creek State Park on Sunday.
    Joseph Wayne Washington was arrested in the deadly shooting of Jackson Chavez. Chavez, 26, was shot to death while attending a cookout at Cherry Creek State Park.

    WASHINGTON (CBS4) – The Lincoln Memorial was vandalized overnight.
    The words “F— law” were spray painted onto one of the columns at the monument, the National Park Service said.
