  • Rain Seeps Through Roof Of Frisco Surgery Center

    FRISCO, Colo. (CBS4) – When Peak One Surgery Center Administrator Michaela Halcomb walked through the door into the operating room Tuesday night, it was “raining from the ceiling.”
    Heavy rains penetrated through a temporary tarp on the surgery center roof that was being replaced at the time, causing tens of thousands in damages and forcing the center to close down until at least Tuesday.

    DENVER (AP) — An elderly Colorado man found dead in a parking garage elevator had pushed the emergency button twice but got no response.
    The Denver Post reports that the decomposing body of 82-year-old Isaak Komisarchik was found last week after multiple residents of a Denver apartment complex reported a terrible stench. Elevator repair workers found the body.

    ERIE, Colo. (AP) — A 2015 helicopter crash that killed two people in northern Colorado was caused by cracking in the helicopter’s rotor system. That’s according to a report released recently by the National Transportation Safety Board.
    The federal investigators say that the crash near the Erie airport was caused by an in-flight break-up of the aircraft’s rotor system prompted by undetected fatigue cracking.

  • Former Colorado GOP Chair Pleads Not Guilty To Voting Fraud

    DENVER (AP) — Prosecutors say a former chairman of the Colorado Republican Party committed voter fraud using his ex-wife’s identity in the 2016 presidential election.
    The Greeley Tribune reports Steve Curtis pleaded not guilty Wednesday to one count of voter fraud and one count of forgery, a class five felony. If convicted, Curtis faces up to three years in prison.

    LAFAYETTE, Colo. (AP) — Colorado forestry officials say an invasive insect that kills ash trees has been found in Lafayette, the fourth city in the state where it’s been discovered.
    Officials said Wednesday the emerald ash borer was found in a tree on private land. It has also been found in Boulder, Gunbarrel and Longmont.

    CBS Local — An alarming new study says rates of high-risk drinking and alcohol abuse among certain groups is rising in the United States. The research, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), also says that the number of Americans drinking jumped nearly 10 percent from 2002 to 2013.
