    Aurora Police Chief: Officer Who Shot Suspect Likely ‘Saved A Lot Of Lives’
    AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) – Aurora police say an investigation into a fatal officer-involved shooting of a stabbing suspect on Saturday is still ongoing and fluid.
    Police say a woman was stabbed to death outside of an Aurora home shortly before 8 p.m. When police arrived an officer shot the suspect, who also died.
    Witnesses said the stabbing of a mother and daughter by her boyfriend started at a home on Kenton Street near East 7th Avenue and continued out into the street down the block.

    DENVER (AP) – A former Arizona state lawmaker who served as Wyoming’s schools chief is poised to become Colorado’s next education commissioner.
    The Colorado State Board of Education on Monday named Richard D. Crandall as the sole finalist to replace Robert Hammond, who retired in June.
    Under Colorado law, the board must give two weeks’ notice before it can hire Crandall.
    Crandall, a Republican, resigned his seat in the Arizona Senate after being appointed by Wyoming Gov.

    CRESTED BUTTE, Colo. (CBS4) – Hundreds of Santas joined together on Saturday to break a world record in Crested Butte.
    The mountain resort set the world record for the most skiing Santas in one place, with 827 Santa skiers and snowboarders.
    It was the third annual Santa Ski Day event, and beat the previous world record of 765 Santas.
    Lift tickets were significantly discounted for the Santa participants, who had to wear a Santa hat, jacket, pants and beard to qualify.

    BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — The family of a University of Colorado graduate student who was stabbed to death in Boulder over the weekend is raising money to pay for his funeral back home.

    DENVER (CBS4) – A Regional Transportation District light rail train derailed at the end of its line Sunday evening. It happened at 9 p.m. when the train was at the end of its route at the Mineral station.

    DENVER (AP) – The Colorado Economic Development Commission has approved hundreds of millions of dollars in incentive programs, including $86 million to help build four tourist attractions in northern Colorado that include an indoor whitewater park, a horror film center, a lake resort and a water park-themed hotel.
