  SEVERANCE, Colo. (CBS4) – Deputies in Weld County would like the public’s help in their investigation of a fatal shooting in the town of Severance.
  According to the Weld County Sheriff’s Office, on Aug. 25 deputies were dispatched to the 1000 block of Red Fox Circle and found a man dead from a gunshot wound.
  The victim’s name hasn’t been released and the sheriff’s office didn’t release any suspect information.

  LEADVILLE, Colo. (CBS4) – A Leadville man whose brutal beating of his former girlfriend included stomping on her head received a lengthy sentence on Monday.
  According to the district attorney in the Fifth Judicial District, Patrick Irwin, 41, was sentenced to 24 years in prison for first degree burglary, second degree assault and criminal trespass for the Oct. 22, 2013 attack.

  DENVER (AP) – A suburban Denver school district plans to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court to try to save its private school voucher program.
  The Douglas County School District said Wednesday that it plans to ask the high court to review a ruling from the Colorado Supreme Court that found the program violates the state constitution because it provides funding for students to attend religious schools.
