  • Woman sentenced to 19 years in prison for fatal New Year’s Day shooting

    CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Cheektowaga resident who fatally shot a woman in Buffalo on New Year’s Day was sentenced.
    Nadiyah Whitaker, 32, killed Sloan resident Shanna Mason, 30, on Gold St. She pleaded guilty to manslaughter in November.
    In court Monday morning, Whitaker received a sentence of 19 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision.
  • Man killed in Wyoming County crash

    TOWN OF SHELDON, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Java man was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Wyoming County Sunday morning.
    New York State Police say Alex Dedoszak, 20, was driving east on Perry Rd. in the Town of Sheldon when he failed to negotiate a curve, and struck a vehicle in the westbound lane.
    First responders tried to save his life, but Dedoszak was pronounced dead at the scene.
    Officials are investigating the crash.
