• Unalaska man charged with burglarizing burned vessel

  An Unalaska man is accused of burglarizing a boat in Captains Bay — the same boat that burned in a mysterious fire last month.
  Geoffrey Edwards, 41, faces three felonies and a misdemeanor charge after allegedly stealing more than $3,000 worth of items from the M/V Rebecca.
  According to court documents, the Department of Public Safety received a call on Aug. 20 that the Rebecca was smoldering and appeared to have been burning through the night.

• Man ‘having mental health emergency’ detained after wielding a knife in Juneau

  Juneau Police Department received a report at 4:24 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, about a 52-year-old man with a knife in the middle of the intersection at Main Street and Juneau Drive, according to a Juneau Police Department news release.
  Officers responded to the report and contacted the Juneau man, who appeared to be under the influence of unknown substance.

  A rash of unsolved killings in outdoor public places in Alaska’s largest city is putting residents on edge.Police have urged people to be vigilant and travel in groups at night. But they have released few details on the deaths and say they haven’t found any clear links between the cases.

  Bodies have been recovered from crash sites of two planes involved in a mid-air collision.KTUU-TV reports bodies will go to the state medical examiner’s office in Anchorage for autopsies.
